How do I get my wheel wells clean? I need product and method recommendations.

    Thanks,

    Zach

A nylon brush that fit inbetween your wheel and wheel wells(a challenge on cars like BMW's and Audi's or anything lowered), a good all purpose cleaner(sometimes a degreaser, both of Meg's Detailer line products are top notch), and some elbow grease
    I want 4" Softbuff pads!

btw, how long do I let the degreaser sit before I give it the elbow grease?

I usualy let it sit a few minutes, since I'm not sure what the maximum recomnded time would be. Incidently, I have found a soft toothbrush to be effective in my wells, since there are some weird bends and curves in mine.

With regards to your dwell time question. I let the cleaner dwell 2-3 minutes. Its important to not let the cleaner / degreaser dry. That might be a better reference for time.

When I detail a car I start with the wells first. This gives them time to dry so I can inspect and hit the problem areas again. There will be a point where you can only get them so clean. If the wells are kept clean from day one then it shouldn't be a problem to clean.

I used to not like to apply dressing to the wells but now I think it looks great. I use All Season Dressing. I don't like the idea of spray painting them though.....

              Enough already. Good luck.

I cleaned the inside of my wheelwell last time. My Camry's wheelwall is beyond help since it's like dried up and spraying anything leaves it turning brown instead of black.

I jacked up the Sienna at each wheel to give me more room though I didn't remove the wheel. I used Megs EXTRA and a couple of disgusting towels that I throw away when done. I do give them one final rinse and then dress with some old Armor All I have and for those, it does a good job.

Also, if you find you get some of that white fling up from new road surface that can scrape off of the plastic with a plastic razor blade. It's a heck of a lot faster than using your finger nail. I usually jack up each end of my car a few times a year and remove each wheel, wash clay and wax them front and back (use junk old clay for the back) and while it's off and I can get to the rest of the well easily I take an old wash mit with some degreaser and clean the well out really well. The trick is to do them often enough that they stay fairly clean because once that gunk is allowed to build up in quantity and bake on it doesn't easily want to come off.

Oh, I got the neighbor "stare" You know, the one where your neighbor forces themselves to smile and wave to you but the truth behind it that they think you're a nutcase who's mentally insane about cars.

yeah? Happens to me all the time. What makes the situation seem more weird is when my 15 y/o holding the PC.

                      I third this motion...

I've been using Safe D-Greaser for several months on my wells since the decommissioning of Citri-Gel (a discontinued D-Line product). Even more recently, I've started using a foaming spray head on my secondary bottle to achieve a light foam which 'sticks' in place when sprayed into my wells. So far, I've found this to be a KILLER METHOD to achieve stellar wheel wells (which is a mega pet peeve of mine when detailing).

I will follow with agitation with a nylon bristled brush and rinse with a stream of water. It's AMAZING to watch the black crud fall to the ground when rinsing! Wells are, by far, the dirtiest part of any detail.

Give it a try... it works great and yields excellent results!

I spray the wells with APC at 5:1. I then let it sit for a while then I take a brush or sometimes an old washmitt to take the dirt off. Afterwards, depending on my mood, I either wax it or dress it with some Hyper dressing diluted at 2.5:1.

Wish there was still some EK around...
