  • Swirls and holograms after waxing

    Hey everyone,

I did a full wax to my black 2009 Ford F150. I made sure to wash it good, dry it and then apply cleaner wax, then tech wax. After finishing, I noticed swirl marks and holograms on the hood. I used microfiber for everything and applied medium pressure when waxing. I read on some other threads that scratchX can take them away, but I'm afraid to do this because when I go to reapply the wax, I'll probably just add more swirls and holograms. I'm not exactly sure where I went wrong here -- I read other threads on how to wax, I felt like I followed them pretty closely but still had this result. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! One thing I'm thinking about is getting a DA.

    Thanks!

Well, I certainly wouldnt do a lot of swirl removal by hand if going to get a DA soon.

Are the holograms more like swirls/scratches, or smears of product?

Also, how was the truck cared for before this?

Yea, we need some more details. Willing to wager they was always there but now your seeing them. A trained eye so to speak. Also if product is too heavly applied it may give a look like swirls.

People have de swirled by hand but for that amt of real estate, look for a D/A or Orbital

I too think you didn't put the swirls in if your surface & MF were clean.

The only thing I can think of is maybe the surface/MF wasn't completely clean and I didn't realize it? I'll look into a DA or orbital, but from what I understand that is a whole new skill set to conquer.

Not that hard or different... just a little up front investment.

The thinking would be if the swirls were covered up somehow, and you just exposed them.
