Re: cold weather care for your car

Heh, all you winter haters... I have to admit though that this winter will be different from the rest I have experienced. I just did the big old process of removing swirls and minor scratches from my truck this past spring. All of these swirls were from the Drive Thru car wash as I was a huge fan of the Drive Thru, especially in the winter months. I did a lot of waxing too, but I, nor my dad, never really knew about these Scratch removing compounds, or the polishes. After all of that hard work, no more drive thru for me. I'll probably just be hitting the quarter car wash and turnin the heater on in the garage and wax and what not in there like usual.

Just hit the quarter car wash often in winter, and keep a good coat of wax on it and you'll be fine imo.

Touchless car wash, a no rinse wash and bucket of hot water. If your going to do it in freezing temps be sure to dry door jambs, etc. so they don't freeze shut on you. Typically I'll run to a touchless wash if it's bad then home to do a no rinse wash.

Reminds me... I need to put a coat of wax on the snow blower soon. lol

Here's a picture of my old truck. That's about as dirty as I would let it get before I'd do a touchless first. Others seem to use just no rinse on worse but I never wanted to risk it.

thanks for replying guys. my garage is not heated but taking the bucket to the car wash is a good idea i will have to try that lol. And i notice you guys live in places just as cold as the winters here in nebraska/iowa but how bout when it gets really cold like sub-zero do you just give it one last good wash and wax when temps are still in like the 40s and wait til your'e able to go to the car wash again when it heats up a little?

I won't be out in sub zero washing my car. It was probably about 35

Re: cold weather care for your car

I did try some touchless wash from a brand called Certified.
I do not think it will work in our winters, and in summer I wash as regular, so I will not be using it then

In my area, we pretty much have 5 months of subzero temperatures, so I wish I could find something that did work for the coldest periods.
Have yet to try something i feel did a good enough job that i feel confident on claying and buffing afterwards.

Did a wash yesterday, in 26 degrees fahrenheit. -for that, you need extra hot water, and a warmed garage to pull into right after final rinse.
It works, but it is not as easy or cozy as a regular wash.
