Just took my 1964 Cadillac Deville out of our pole barn after many years of storage. It still has the original lacquer finish, no clear coat. I'd like to shine 'er up again. Should I follow the same procedures as recommended for modern paints with clear coats? Would appreciate any advice.

HI Folks, I just took my 1964 Gold Cadillac Deville out of out pole barn. It has the original finish, no clear coat. I'd like some advice as to how to make it shine again. So far we have used rubbing compound by hand.

Old lacquer paint ...........Cadillac used what they call firemist colors back then . The paint contained ALOT of metallic .More then other stock GM colors . If you would buff this paint , since it is so old . The chances of going through the layers and having a BLOTCHY effect is great . Even the most experianced can't do it correct. Once you go through the paint layers , there is NO way to correct it except to repaint . My advice would be to use cleaner wax by hand. Go lightly and possibly a few applications .Checking each one as you proceed . It will be time consuming , but you can clean it up . Follow by a good wax of choice .
