So I just bout a new car. I'm going to do some serious washing, cleaning, polish, waxing this weekend :p My question is can I skip the cleaning step if the paint feels smooth and doesn't have any, or many, defects on it? Last week I did spray down the car with the ultimate quick spray wax. Do I need to use ultimate compound to remove it before my polish and wax or is it alright to just wash then polish then wax?

    Thanks for the input.

You dont want to avoid the cleaning, but you can work it in different ways:

    1. Wash
    2. Clay
    3. ColorX or Cleaner/Wax
    4. Wax

    1. Wash
    2. Clay
    3. Cleaner/Polish - SwirlX or Ult. Polish
    4. Wax
    5. Wax

Maintain: UQW for after future washes

Generally its always recommended to clay as you can catch stuff washing misses and dig into the clear. Just considered good form.

Hmm yeah I prob should. I think I'll just use UC instead of claybar... The paint is in good shape and doesn't really have much or any contamination. It feels smooth to the touch already.

        I'm going to try:
        1. wash
        2. UC
        3. Polish
        4. Ultimate liquid wax
        5. maintain with the spray

I'll see how that works for me!

In the end you need to use your judgement. We are not there, we cannot use a plastic bag method of feeling the paint to see.

I have clayed cars that I prev worked out and 95% of the time I bearly get anything as I had kept the upkeep going on the cars and it takes litterally seconds per panel. IF I feel no resistance, I move on after inspecting the clay itself.

The only time new contamination came on was due to rich mixture of fuel got on the bumper, thats really about it. Most of the bonded contaminates come off on the wash due to the wax layering being so good.

So if you start with a good foundation, upkeep is a breeze. Not doing it at all is just asking for more work.
