    Re: Clay Bar

If you were in a hurry, most of the dirt would hit and stick to the horizontal surfaces (roof, hood, trunk).

But ideally you would do everything, eps the first time.

Some people who clay often will do everything, then just do the horizontal surfaces once or twice, then do everything again. I clay only once in a while, so I do everything.

The more often you clay, the easier it is. I clay my vehicle about once a month and it's so easy compared to when I do a customer's car.

Yes, Clay as often as you need to. It doesn't remove anything except for dirt and contaminants on the paint.

As far as I know, clay will remove wax, not just dirt/contaminants.

                  Re: Clay Bar

I clay only once a year. This is the only time I do the whole detailing job, the 5-step process.

For the rest of the year, I would just wax with Cleaner Wax, NXT-2, UW, #21, etc. I do wash and wax often.

I would clay the whole car. If your car is in good condition, claying the vertical panels will take additional 10 minutes only. Otherwise, you should definitely clay the whole car.

Claying is fast enough that you might as well do the whole car, imo.

                      Re: Clay Bar

A serious clay job, trying to catch every nook and cranny, slow and methodical, will take an extra 45-60 minutes and may instill some slight marring of the surface. Following up with a light polish is ideal. A quick clay job just looking and feeling for any extra contaminants may only take you an additional 15 minutes. Rubbing lightly will reduce the marring.

If your project is a darker color paint, be prepared to follow up with a light polish.
