  • Ultimate Protectant

I purchased a UQD and it came with a small sample of Ultimate Protectant.

For the interior, I use Mirror Glaze Vinyl Cleaner and Meguiares Leather Cleaner and Conditioner (spray).

How does this Ultimate Protectant differ from the other products?

    Re: Ultimate Protectant

Ultimate Protectant offers very long durability due to its polymers bonding to protected surfaces. It's an exterior/ interior protectant. It became my number 1 choice for exterior moldings/ trims and plastic not painted bumpers.

Sometimes quick cleaning with product like APC or APC+ is needed to remove previously used products before Ultimate Protectant application.

    It doesn't streak after rain.

The one I use for interior is VINYL & RUBBER CLEANER/CONDITIONER in the Mirror Glaze.
Good product but it does streak after rain.

I see from the other thread that Ultimate Protectant and Ultimate Black are the same products.
        This is a bit confusing.

Original Ultimate Protectant (lotion) has been renamed Ultimate Black.
Also in 2011 new spray version was added as Ultimate Protectant.

I applied the UP sample before any research. I assumed it's similar to #40, a cleaner and conditioner, so I just applied to my dash and doors using a yellow pad. So far, I do not see anything special about this product. Maybe there was still some #40 on these surfaces.

After checking some threads in this and other forums, I learned that I should have cleaned the surface first and rubbed in the product. I will buy UP later and apply it properly. I have Mr. Clean lying around so I will use it to prep the surface.

UP for me certainly increased the darkness of the interior panels, give a wet shine to them, it would lessen over time. On my 2002 Trans Am I did get some glare from the windshield but otherwise pleased with the product.

                Re: Ultimate Protectant

I finally bought the UP and applied to my car last evening.
The black strip at the bottom of my windshield was never treated (my car is 5-6 yrs old). I washed this strip with GC car wash, applied the UP and rubbed hard.
I watched the video demonstration of UP that a dime-sized lotion would treat the whole strip and both side mirrirs. Don't know why but I needed more product that this, maybe 4-5 times. I will apply another coat tonight.

As for the interior, I just wiped down with water and applied UP. All good despite the fact that I should have traces of #40 on these surfaces.

I will report results after the next time it rains.

Having very clean trim is important for applying Ultimate Black, I really can't state that enough. If you put it over dirty trim you're essentially applying the product to the layer of dirt covering the trim, not the trim itself. In order to bring out the streak free nature and exceptional durability of the product, you must ensure that the product is interacting with the trim directly.

I used a toothbrush and APC+ on my trim before applying, it seemed to work well.

                    Re: Ultimate Protectant

It rained a bit yesterday and I saw some white spots (streaks) on the windshield cowl.
This cowl was never treated and prior to the UP, I did clean it thoroughly with GC wash. Kinda dispapointed that the UP did not work here.

So, last night I cleaned this cowl again with Mr. Clean. I will repeat this clean process again tonight then apply the UP.

                      Re: Ultimate Protectant

                      I gave up.

I cleaned the windshield cowl twice with Mr. Clean, waited for it to dry, then applied UP. I rubbed UP in real hard but somehow there are still light patches here and there.
Maybe this cowl was neglected for too long (my car is 6-7 yrs old), maybe because of the kind of material used by MB, UP just did not work. Luckily, my car does not have any other plastic piece in the exterior.

As for the interior, UP seems to hold up quite well. However, #40 did a good job as well so nothing special here.

I watched the demo video and it did work wonders. Too bad it did not work for me.

What exactly is your windshield cowl made of?? Is it rubber, vinyl or a painted plastic? If it's paintedd..UP is not the product to use there. If rubber or vinyl, I'd say you need to use something stronger than soap and water to clean it first. Window cleaner or Dawn dish soap should work well if you don't have something like APC cleaner.

                          I don't think it's painted plastic.
I applied UP twice. For cleaning, I used GC Wash the first time and Mr. Clean twice the 2nd time.
