Hey guys im having a slight issue after after using the ultra compound. Im far from a pro in the detailing scene but id like to think im no newbie either. The problem im having is theres a light haze like i almost put more swirls into it than i took out. I used a D/A polisher with the maroon pad (forget the number) for the ultimate compound and followed up with deep crystal polish on a 8207 polishing bad and than finished with the NXT liquid on a 9207 finishing pad. it looked great until i got it in the sun the next day and noticed the light haze its a jet black bike so it stands out a bit. What im wondering is did i use the wrong pad for the ultra compound? or should i have followed with something like a paint cleaner before moving to the polish? Also what pads do you guys recomend for each, am i going at it all wrong and just stick with the same density pad for the different compounds? any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance Cody.

First,to MOL!
Meguiar's have always recommended to use the least aggressive method to get the job done. Since you already already used the Ultimate Compound with the softbuff maroon W7207 pads, I would try to use something less aggressive such as Ultimate Polish with a yellow polishing (W8207) or black finishing (W9207) pad. This is a great product to clear up any hazing your compounding might have left behind. The reason why your Deep Crystal Polish didn't clean up the haze is because it's a pure polish and it doesn't have any cleaners in them.
In general though, Meguiar's never recommended using the Softbuff maroon W7207 pads with the g110v2 or any D/A polishers for that particular reason. It usually causes hazing and it seems like it happened to your paint. If you want to remove heavy to severe defects in the future, I would recommend trying to using the W8207 yellow polishing pad with Ultimate Compound. Mike Stoops has been using this combo in all his saturday classes with amazing results so we know that this combo works and is already proven.

thanks for the help, that was what my initial thought that the pad was to firm, Im going to to try it again with a 8207 pad and see how it turns out, hopefully lesson wont be learned to hard. Do you guys think that taking the extra paint cleaner step would help to really help smooth it out or just a waste? thanks again Cody

But in your case, I'll just go ahead and use the milder polish (ultimate polish) to clean up the haze left behind by the Ultimate Compound. There's really no reason to use Ultimate Compound for another pass.

Meguiar's always tells us to do a test area to see if you get the results you are looking for before you do the whole car. You will most likely find that UP ( which is less abrasive will clear the haze ) and a wax will serve you well.BMW ZSCCA Area Rep SoCal

What you've discovered is the primary reason why we do NOT recommend using the W7xxx series of cutting pads with a DA buffer - it's usually too aggressive and ends up hazing the paint. The Deep Crystal Polish you used as a follow up is a pure polish, meaning it has zero cutting ability, so it's not going to clear up the haze created by your first step.
All of this should be a very easy fix, however, with just a quick follow up using either Ultimate Polish on a W8207 polishing pad, or even Ultimate Compound on the W8207. It sort of depends on how bad the hazing is and how sensitive the paint is. It could very well be that even UC on a W8207 is a bit aggressive for this paint (we've seen that on a few Hondas and Toyotas, for example) so do a small test spot or two.
A normal starting combo would be UC/W8207, UP/W9207, wax or sealant/fresh W9207. Even then, a test spot the first time you work on a given vehicle will tell you if this combo is aggressive enough, too aggressive, how long you may need to spend with each step, etc.Michael Stoops

Sorry took me so long but i finally got back around to taking care of the problem. I began with the U/P on a 8207 pad and worked it in lightly and followed that up with the ultimate wax on a 9207, Which by the way i absolutely fell in love with. Ive never used anything that gave that kind of results with such ease. The results are phenominal, it looks better than the day i rode it off the floor! Id put up a few photos but i have no idea how, maybe ill try putting them in my profile till i figure it out (if thats possible). Thanks again for all the help. Cody

I just used the Ultimate Compound with a Porter Cable and (sorry) someone else's fairly aggressive "orange" pad on a 2004 Freightliner Sprinter Van - white paint. I was SHOCKED at how well this stuff works. Mercedes who hangs these body panels in the same paint booth they paint the cars in and then lets the over spray coat the van panels before they hang them on the van is using unbelievably sketchy paint that most of us think isn't clear coated. I probably could have gone right to a wax but, since this is a work van and only gets this level of care once a year, now has a polish on it (the Hand Polish) and it is looking fabulous. A couple more coats of wax and this will be great!
