  • Clearcoat run?

Damn. My car is plagued with problems =(.
During one of my detailing sessions, I noticed some paint run at the edge of the hood.
Would this be fixable? I don't know where whether it was from the factory, or if there was a possibility it's from the repainting of the fender?

    And another shot:

It's really hard to capture it. If additional pictures will help, i can try again =)

It's not factory... the paint booths at the factory are computer controlled and dead accurate for time and amount of paint to apply to the vehicle. It appears that the body shop blended the repair into the hood. If it is silver, that is one hard color to match... and it may not be the clear that ran Unless it is glaringly "hey, look at me" noticeable like a tremendous zit at the end of your nose, I'd leave it alone until a total repaint of the car.

The car is actually white, with crystals in the paint.
That being said, it's also very hard to match Crystal White Pearl as well.
Can't they just sand down the clear coat? Or is this because the base coat had a runoff ?

I doubt it's the base coat that ran. They would've had to really been spraying the heck out of the base coat to do that. I would sand with 1200, 1500, and 2000 grit, but be very careful since it's on that edge and make sure to only sand on the run itself until it levels with the rest of the paint. Experience from going to school for auto body, working in a body shop, and painting both of my trucks by myself.

That would be a very difficult run to sand out so close to the edge . if you still want to try I would tape off the edge but I still wouldnt recommend it.

Its so minor I would live with it than risk going through the clear and having to respray the whole entire hood.

We completely agree. Unless you are extremely skilled at both wet sanding and the buffing required to then remove the sanding marks, you don't even want to think about doing this, especially right on an edge like this.

The more I look at the pictures Id be willing to bet its already been wet sanded, and that would make it even more risky and likely to sand through. Sanding runs completely flat are a difficult thing to do.

                Thanks Michael for the welcome!
