steps for white paint??

i want to get the most shine out of my white vette. the paint is mint and all i used on it was nxt wax. oh i did clay bar it. can some give me in order what to use ending with nxt wax.

If you have little to no swirls I would go this route:

1. Wash
2. Clay
3. #80 Speed Glaze
4. NXT

You should look into picking up either the G-100 from Meguiar's or the Porter Cable 7336 from Lowe's. They are the same machine, however Meguiar's offers a lifetime warranty on their rebadged unit. Meguiar's also has a backing plate and pad kit that can be used with these buffers; p/n W-DAV99. The G-100 comes with a backing plate and one pad, but if you pick up the PC from lowes you will need this.

I would agree with the G-100, or the PC 7336 from Lowe's. They are able to get rid of most swirls, and give a nice shine, without the risk of damaging your paint.

There is a product/speed list over in the G-100 forums i belive.. covers just about everything. I think settings 4-6 are the speeds used most often, just as an idea.

since it's a white car is a buffer really needed over hand waxing?? what i mean is i could see using a buffer on dark colored cars but white??? will a buffer be a diffrence as far as a brighter shine??. i have very little swirls even in the sun. my paint is bling blinging now that's why i don't know how much more i could get out of it.

The machine will be able to help remove those swirls in the polishing stages. It also helps you lay down a nice thin layer of wax and really makes removal a breeze.

With white cars, i belive it is often steps like polishing that some people leave out, as it can be hard to see the difference using paint cleaner/wax, and paint cleaner/polish/wax. On darker colors, the polish would add extra shine, but hard to see on white. However, the G-100 will make the steps u use go more quickly, and remove more swirls, etc in the cleaning step. Some people say it even adds a little extra sparkle to their wax job.

Since you don't have a swirl problem, then you're correct in that a dual action polisher really won't dramatically improve the results you can achieve by hand on your car's finish. When it comes to white paint and light colors, what you want to do is create as much gloss as you can because light colors don't offer reflectivity and depth like dark colors.

To create gloss and shine you want to insure that you have the smoothest finish possible, that means do a stellar job of claying the car to insure all above surface contaminants have been removed, then you can either go straight to your wax, or as an option apply a polish first and then apply your wax. Applying a polish to a clear coated white car won't dramatically improve the depth, but the act of rubbing a polishing pad over the finish will act to help make the surface smooth which is how you create gloss. Pick up a bottle of some M09 Swirl Remover 2.0, or some Speed Glaze, both of these are cleaner/polishes and by hand offer some very gentle polishing action. Apply a thin coat, work in well and then remove, it's not necessary to let a Meguiar's polish dry. Then apply two thin coats of wax, allowing each coat to fully dry before removing and when you're done you car's finish should glow with gloss.

With DC #1 and DC #2 are you suppose to just apply these products with a foam applicator with a gentle application. I didn't let it dry as it states on the bottle not to, but I was just wondering on the application if you are suppose to work the cleaner and pure polish in.

Hi radkonn,

Both of these products can be applied by hand with a foam applicator pad, how gentle or aggressive you apply a paint cleaner is determined by the paint cleaner and the defect you're trying to remove.

Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner is a very mild paint cleaner for cleaning the surface of light contamination, while you don't want to overwork this product, you do want to put a little passion behind the pad if the surface is stained or lightly oxidized.

You are correct to wipe both of these product off after applying them and working them in. No Meguiar's paint cleaner or polish needs to dry before removing.

Apply pure polishes to the finish as though you were applying skin lotion to your skin.

cool thanks, also in order what do i need to use for my 01 grand cherokee the color is burgandy. i use the nxt wax but it's missing something it shine great but could be better.?? thanks

You can use the same method i posted earlier in the thread. If a couple of passes of #80 doesn't correct the problem you can step up to #83. In this case it would be optimal to invest in the PC, trust me, your arms and car will thank you.
