  • UC 105 vs Ultimate Compound

I'm new to this forum, I am posting this a second time because I think I posted in wrong forum.

What is the differencebetween UC105 and Ultimate Compound. I keep reading and reading articles and talking to different people, they say use UC105 the UC205 or they will say 84/85. I have a black 2006 Tacoma with some minor scratches (they look white but fingernail barely catches it) and minor swirl marks and also a 2005 Camry metalic gray color with minor scratches and hard water marks that won't come off with claying. I use a Porter Cable for polishing and used the #82 with another brand polish and wax. What you people recommend I try?

(I have also signed up for the upcoming Saturday class but that's not until Aug 20th).

I think I just got an answer in similar threads. UC105 is used for rotary and Ultimate Compound for DA?

Re: UC 105 vs Ultimate Compound

UC and 105 are designed to do the same job. The biggest difference is 105 is body shop safe and UC is not. So if you are not working in a body shop Uc is the correct product at a reasonable price. Some scratches can only be fixed by paint. If you can feel the scratch with your fingernail, this is most likely one of these types that may need paint. FYI, there are also Thursday Night open garage sessions where I am sure you could get some help and it would be easier to see and feel what you are up against. You also have all the good stuff there to see what works best. There is a TNOG this Thursday.

I am not a Pro Detailer but I tried few different products including UC and UP. You asked for recommendations of products to use.As far as I am concerned your best bet is to invest in "Microfiber Correction System". It is by far easiest to use and most rewarding in few short hours. It's the best thing since "slice of bread" IMO. Just my 2 cents worth.

I have a PC 7424 with orange, green and black Hex pads, would those be sufficient?

Yeah I had signed up for that class but had to cancel due to retirement party but I am thinking I should go to class instead, I am signed up for the Saturday Aug 20th class but that is a long way off.

Wow! looks like a deep scratch. Can you feel it with your finger nail? Just my opinion, but I think you might need to do some wet sanding with 1500 grit. Someone who is a Pro can tell you more. You can always try taking it out with your orange pad and UC.

Re: UC 105 vs Ultimate Compound

We fixed the picture embed for you but, yes, that does look like a really nasty scratch and you probably won't be able to get rid of it completely without resorting to extreme measures. By that we mean wet sanding, but we highly suggest you NOT go that route unless you really know what you're doing and have the tools and ability to removing your sanding marks after the fact. Funny how often people miss that part and then wonder why their paint looks so dull after sanding. Yes, that actually happens.

Using a DA and an aggressive pad with UC will lessen the appearance, but full removal is doubtful. It's definitely worth a shot though, just know going in that it may not remove it completely.

Yeah that's what I was afraid of. I'll try the UC with my orange pad to try to reduce it some. I don't think I would ever attempt to wet sand it. Gonna go get the UC this morning.

Well I tried the UC and it reduced it some but is still quite noticeable. I cancelled my other plans and signed up for this Thursdays class to maybe get a few more pointers.
