I was looking to freshen up my white letters on my tires. THey are pretty clean but I want them sparkling white. I have used Wesleys bleach white and brillo pads and all of the others tricks to clean them. I ordered a paint pen off ebay and the thing was ****..only paid 5 bucks. I have heard the duplicolor hot tire pen was a joke so I did not buy it. Does anyone have any other suggestions about painting the white letters. I was thinking about white wall paint with a small brush would do the trick. Also, I have read that if you do paint the tires to take them offf the car so the paint wont run down the tire...is this really necessary. Thanks

Re: Painting TIRES!!!
I can honestly say I've never painted my tires. I do however remember when I was a kid (very early 70's) that some of the "old guys" use to use white shoe polish on their white walls and automatic tranny fluid to "shine up" the tires at car shows. Thank goodness we've gone beyound that!!Professional Automotive Reconditioning Services

Re: Painting TIRES!!!
paint pens never really work. I was unhappy everytime I ever tried it. It's really difficult, & usually looks fake & tacky.
by the second tire, you're like...THIS *****! but then it's too late, unless you want to go around with two unfinished tires.
a good cleaning, & a brillo/sos pad is the way to go. leaves 'em clean, shiny & natural looking. NICE!one black SVT COBRA one black RANGER 4x4 one black HARLEY
keep the shiny side up, & the rubber side down !! !

[QUOTE=tguil;478687. By the way, IMO shiny treated blackwalls don't look all that great either.

I am with you there, Tom. I use a product that makes my tires look like they just came from the factory; a deep black matte. Glossy tires remind me of a 10 dollar lady of the evening.
To the OP. White wall paint will not work. Both oil base and latex pait were not designed for tires, as the tires will flex and the paint will not. Result...cracking and flaking.

Re: Painting TIRES!!!
If you already have white letters, no matter how bad they are, they are still white. The white goes into the thickness of the tire, and the black rubber on the outside of the tire is an overly (disclaimer - this is with most production tires, so I never say always, or never...) But anyway, don't try to paint them. Try "Wesley's Bleche White", spelled Bleche, sounds like bleach. Spray on liberally, don't inhale it though it will make you cough.. Scrub away, rinse away, letters are white as new.. Available in all the regular auto stores...

Re: Painting TIRES!!!
To add to what's already been offered, I use a soft wire whitewall brush with Westley's for maximum cleaning. Then your dressing of choice, with a Q-Tip if necessary, makes the RWLs appear even whiter.
I have WOL tires which is a pain in the neck dressing the inside of the letters when I'm feeling fanatical. I've since started using Stoner's More Shine aerosol for complete coverage then blot off any excess. I wipe 'em down for a matte finish which I think highlights the white letters better. Having the clear dressing covering the letters keeps them whiter longer. YMMV.
