  • Cleaning and wax top of pickup truck

How do I clean and wax my 2011 ford f150. I use a ladder to stand on and also use a brush with a handle. This works fine cleaning but now I need to dry the top and I cannot reach the middle. I cannot stand in the bed because I have a hard bed cover on the bed. Like to know also how to wax in the middle.

I just stand on the door jambs of our 2010 and hold the DA at an arm's length if I can't reach all the way over. Standing on the jamb gives you another almost foot of reach vs. a ladder. Be careful of a sideways ladder if you lean in so it doesn't tip into the car and hit the paint...

I have an 09 F150 and I use a short wooden step ladder that is probably 2ft or a little more high. I also have a truck cap and I can just reach halfway across the top of both the cab and the cap. It's a stretch but manageable. Using the DA I just use one arm and let the weight of the DA do all the work when applying wax.

I stand in the open door with one hand on the A-Pillar handle. I'm never really concerned with the roof of pickups so long as it's protected because no one can see swirls up there.

Be careful not to drop your buffer on the roof. It really can happen......

Buffing, I agree, is a bit of a problem. However using ColorX, an all in one cleaner and wax, makes it somewhat easier. Although if you can't reach it, ya can't buff it.

I have a 4x4 Expedition. I use a 2 step step stool that is about 2 feet wide. That gets me high enough and then I just lean into the vehicle to support myself.

You might take a look at the Werner Platform - it gets you about a 20" lift, has about a 39" work base. I use one a lot on Honda Odysseys and the other taller vehicles I do from time to time. You can catch them on sale for around $20 from time to time at Lowe's or Home Depot.

I like that. Would probably work alot better than what I have been using.

The Werner platform is best detailing tool I own when it comes to working on the roof my truck and wife's suv. I use it on every wash and detail of both vehicles. Only word of caution is that the aluminum walk surface gets very slippery when wet.
