  • foam gun??

    Ok Gang

I'm thinking of moving to a foam gun and looking for recommendations. My house is on softened water and i use Megs Gold class exclusively. Trying to stay under $50 or less.

    Thanks

All the hose end ones are pretty much from Gilmour. Its the Foammaster 2 I believe.

Some are just re-labeled by Wolfgang, etc.

So can shop around, try calling Gilmour directly, and see how things add up.

If you already own a Karcher power washer, they sell a foam type attachment. I don't think it is quite as good as some of the others I've seen, but I think it is only 30 bucks or so.

Yeah ,the power washer type and hose end type are a bit different, not interchangeable.

I have the Gilmour from ads and it could be the best $40 ive ever spent!! The griots looks to be decent, but doesn't have any ratio settings like the gilmour.

Yeah, I like it... some people dont, which is ok.

Its not magic, like you spray the car and it is suddenly clean. You are still washing pretty much like normal. But it puts soap where I want it, and extra soap if wanted right away, which is what I was looking for.

Some people use less soap, but I use about the same as always, 4-5 ounces per wash.

                      Re: foam gun??

I found my Gilmour foam gun to be a novelty on the first try, but more of a pain than anything else. I just could not see what added value it was, but quite the reverse...drying soap, having to taking it off and put on the hose every time to rinse, mixing soap, etc. etc. I gave it to the kids as a toy and it is theirs to use now to foam themselves silly.

Home Depot has one for around $14.00.

My cars are sooo clean, I wash sooo often .... seems like a waste of soap really.
I can afford one of these but I get a feeling I will end up keepin it on the shelf....or like Blueline said....give it to the kids and let them foam themselves silly though with bubble bath soap....lol

                            Re: foam gun??

To be honest, for me at least, I use 4-5 ounces of soap either way.

But with a bucket, I have some soap left over, and it is tossed in the grass.

With the foam gun, I either use up the whole container on the car (I get pretty close to empty usually), or I leave left over in the container to be used next time.

So actually, out of my 4-5 ounces, more gets to the car with the foam gun.

                              Re: foam gun??

Do I think it is a "detailing necessity"? 100% NOT, but I still LOVE mine and use it for every wash.

I don't think it makes my wash any better or faster (maybe it adds lubricity) but the way I do it, I end up using WAY more soap because I use my foam gun in conjunction with a regular two bucket wash with grit guards.

More of a toy than anything else, but a toy I've grown to love!
