  • Need help with touched up area

I used some canned spray paint to touch up some imperfections in my cars hood. I also used a clear coat. I used rubbing compound to get a smooth finish and eliminate the overspray. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get the touch up paint to match the original paint. The touched up area appears to be a little darker and not as shiny as the original. I also used a polishing compound on the spot. Nothing seems to work. Any advice on how to fix this or at least hide it until I can get it into the shop to get it fixed?

Touch up paints tend to never really be spot on to match as far as colors go. It could possibly be that the clearcoat you sprayed on isnt quit leveled therefore not reflecting as much gloss and youd like. So maybe doing a light sanding from 1000 grit up to 2500 will help in that area. If your not comfortable doing that do not proceed. If you can get a picture of the area involved, maybe we can get a better idea on how to approach this. Good luck!

What compounds are you using and how are you applying?
