New to boards, question on "Daily Driver" sticky

Greetings all,

Just got a new (used) car and picked up the Meg's new car kit, used all the products and was very impressed.

However, my dad took the liberty of having a few scuffs on my back bumper touched up and buffed out, now there are horrible holograms all over the back of my new car...it looks worse than before!

I want to fully detail the car, from my understanding I could do the following

1. wash with gold class wash

2. clay bar the car

3. Use Swirl X to get the minor marks and holograms off my car

4. wax the car with my ultimate wax


questions:

1. does the swirl x work as a polish and/or wax? or will i need to do two coats of the ultimate wax after?

2. should I add the deep crystal polish after swirl x, or is that redundant?

3. would the cleaner wax work as well and replace (swirl x + deep crystal polish)

4. ultimate wax or gold class ?

1. SwirlX is considered a Cleaner/Polish not a wax. Whichever wax you choose, two coats is recommended for good overall coverage.
   
2. Perhaps slightly redundant. Meguiar's considers polish an optional step. You may have a really great looking finish when done with SwirlX. How old is the finish? An older car may benefit from the oils in polish.
   
3. Neither SwirlX or Deep Crystal Polish are waxes. Still need a wax. Also a cleaner wax may remove polish.
   
4. Which you choose is up to you. Meguiar's states Ultimate Wax has better longevity. Ultimate Wax is a synthetic sealant. Gold Class is a carnauba wax (polish wax).

Just out of curiosity, are you working by hand?

I am working by hand. The car is an 06 and has a fairly good shine to it, the only issues are the swirls/holograms where my dad's body guy did a poor job on it. Since I already have the Ultimate Wax from me solutions kit im thinking:

1. Wash with GOld Class (wash)
2. Clay Bar (Prep)
3. Swirl X (clean, polish)
4. Ultimate WAx (seal)
5. Ultimate Wax (seal)

Whew, that was a ride!

Just went and picked up all the goods, and did the following

1. washed with gold class
2. clayed entire car
3. did two hand application/removals of swirl x (yes two)
4. applied ultimate polish
5. Used an orbital and applied ultimate wax/ removed by hand

Wow, started at 2pm and ended now at 2am.....the car looks amazing inside, can't wait to finish that last coat of wax tomorrow, then do the rest of the touch ups and upload some pics. Time for a deep sleep.
