  • Ultimate Wax and Collinte #845...

Just wondering what the results of combining these two would look like on a light colored car.

What do you guys think? Is it crazy to think you could use Ultimate Wax for depth and shine, then using 845 for increased protection of said results.

My Uncle has been a detailer for 25+ years and swears by 845 on customers cars, seeing as we have pretty harsh winters here.

Any thoughts? An exercise in futility?

    I doubt they will layer.

Re: Ultimate Wax and Collinte #845...

I've tried NXT2.0+Collinite Combination before. COllinite is good, but it doesn't really last much much longer than NXT2.0 as you might think. 845 seems to give a "brighter" look, certainly bright for a carnauba but it still has depth. In fact, i like the way 845 looks on silver than nxt. It just gives an almost 3d look on the flake, the shine, and just the way it adds a different "dark" hue on silver. Unfortunately, i have no experience with Ultimate wax.. it is easy to use, but it can get streaky if applied too thick especially on black or dark color cars..

Try both, half a panel with Ultimate wax alone, and the other ultimate wax topped with collinite. Collinite will add protection to the UW but it won;t make your wax 2, 3, 4, or 5x longer. If you're happy with the looks of Ultimate wax alone, just stick to that. If you don't mind altering the look (very slightly) given by the collinite and focus more on protection, add collinite.

Don't worry too much about collinite "changing the look" of your finish.. Collinite looks good, if anything it can actually add a different dimension in the way your car looks.

Thanks ffboy. I actually had a coat of 845 on last year and I really liked the way it looked on my car. I did apply it too heavy and it was a ***** to buff off, but I was happy with the results overall.

Come to think of it, I have some NXT liquid I've been wanting to try. Maybe I'll pick up some 845 and do half of my hood with NXT and half with Ult. Paste and see which one I like better topped with 845.

These might layer. Some people like to layer collinite on wolfgang dgps 3.0. UW is pretty slick, but I think you are supposed to be able to layer gold class carnuba. I would give the UW at least 12 hours (24 is better) before adding the 845.

If you read some threads here, some people like NXT 2.0 compared to ultimate wax. NXT 2.0 seems to give a deeper look than the 845. My observation is that applying 845 on top of nxt 2.0 made the car give a glassy bright look (on black at least).

NXT 2.0 (you do have NXT 2.0 and not the NXT ver1 right?) is very easy to use, generally speaking all who used it were very pleased with the entire experience with NXT 2.0

If water beading is your thing, collinite 845 is the way to go.

Ffboy is right, most people prefer the look of nxt on a light car. I prefer UW on my silver car but I think everyone else I've heard from prefers NXT. However, you shouldn't need the collinite to protect UW as it is durable.

Having said that, i found NXT 2.0 gives a deep gloss too on black paint, I actually like it on black vs. collinite 845! Strange but true.. BUt yes, i agree that applying a coat of collinite isn't really that necessary since NXT and Ultimate wax is durable anyway plus the look of those meguiars waxes is great already.

Call me crazy, but if it was up to me, i'd "assign" specific waxes on certain cars i have. On silver? maybe collinite, on this color car maybe NXT, etc. Certain waxes for certain cars to get the look i want

@ffboy Yes. I have a fresh bottle of 2.0 not the original NXT. And yes the water beeding/protection is what i'm looking for. Something that will protect against heavy salt in the winter, basically.

Hey great info guys. Now let me throw you a curve ball and ask what you think something like Dodo Juice White Diamond would look like, while it seems we started to discuss LSP's.

Cruising the AG site, I came across some boutique waxes, and there's so many LSP's out there it'll make your head spin. I'm almost intrigued to pay the price of admission to try it out. My LSP collection is already out of control(UW,NXT 2.0, GC, cleaner wax, etc)

Re: Ultimate Wax and Collinte #845...

well, i think dodo juice makes different waxes (liquid, soft paste, hard paste) for dfferent colors of paint (ex., purple haze, etc) as well as their dodo juice supernatural, and their double wax. a lot of choices out their, but yes the choices can drive one crazy! HOwever, while i don;t doubt the results one can get with those waxes, the differences in look, feel or durability may not be that great. It may look similar in the end, it may end up being redundant.. buying an expensive wax that looks like collinite 845 ir NXt... I'd say stick with ultimate or NXT2.0 as your base sealant.. For protection, gloss and reflection then add collinite for the carnauba look and further protection. Underneath all that supposing you've removed all defects, i'd add a coat of Deep crystal polish or megs. show car glaze. After all that work, bring your car out in the sun, see if you got the results you wanted and see how shiny your car is..

Re: Ultimate Wax and Collinte #845...

Meguiars aside, One thing you'll see in the AG forums is that the consensus is the collinite 845 is a very good car wax in that it is said to be very durable wax. It may not be the best looking wax, (its not bad though) but no one questions its great durability.

With the nxt 2.0, maintaining the paint properly has shown me that the NXT 2.0 is not outclassed in durability by collinite. Nxt 2.0 surprised me in what it can deliver vs. the supposedly better sealants.

Many thanks to you FF! I have some 845 on order from amazon (free 2 day) so I will update this thread after I do a light correction on my car. My car is silver, by the way. Then I will compare and contrast on my wife's car, which is black.

Enjoy! You will notice that on silver, NXT and collinite work beautifully. Both add brightness, both make your metallic flakes pop, both add an almost 3d look. Same nice results, but different.. Hard to explain, but you'll see. hehe.. No joke, it is kinda hard to explain. You'll see a bigger difference on your wife's car.
