ultimate quik detailer streaking

i've been trying to clean the hood of my car (which isn't that dirty, just washed yesterday) but the quik detailer that used to be so amazing is suddenly streaking. I thought the MF towel was dirty so i got a clean one, but the same thing happens.

Any thoughts? (I had 2 coats of Tech wax on it, do I need to wax again?)

The quik detailer doesn't streak on other parts of the car...just the hood

You could be letting stay on too long. If the car has 2 good layers of wax, almost everything should be coming off. Is the surface warm or something maybe dropped onto the hood over night??

I use a LOT of QD and UQD and have found if the hood is warm to hot it will tend to streak. I solve the problem here by doing much smaller sections like a quarter of the hood at a time. It's critical on a warm surface to dry the QD with your mf towel BEFORE it air drys....hence the smaller sections. Also, the doors/sides may be streaking if they are warm but due to the angle of reflection it doesn't show like it does on the hood. Try smaller sections, use more QD and get it dried faster.

When a quick detailer becomes difficult to wipe off it's a good indication that the wax protection is fading. Since you seem to be a regular user of this product, and since this issue is only happening on the hood, we're inclined to think that the NXT you had on there is becoming quite thin. The hood of a (front engine) car is the harshest place for a wax to sit (aside from the rocker panels of a car throwing a bunch of road salt up on them) - it get's direct sunlight and engine heat, both of which will break down a wax faster than indirect sunlight (the sides of the car) or much less heat (roof, trunk).

You mention having a couple coats of NXT on the car, but how long has it been there? How does the paint feel on the hood? Any chance it's been somehow exposed to some fall out that the rest of the car hasn't? It can happen if parked under a car port with front exposure only to some sort of fallout.

i'm not sure if it has to do with parking close to a big tree...i do notice that there are some sort of fallout on my windshield and my headlights...it's like a sticky substance that forms a film on my car...is that why the quik detailer is streaking?

i applied a thin film of wax tech 2.0 just a week ago...but it's been getting HOT here in NYC so maybe coupled with the engine heat...the wax is fading fast?

If you are seeing that sticky substance on your windshield and headlights, it's on the paint too. Is this a type of pine tree? They are terrible for that. Sounds like you should consider washing, claying and using a good polish then re wax....and lastly....dont park under that tree!

Could be not enough coverage from when you first applied coupled with not enough curing time. Heat and other exposures will lessen the protection over time. Pollen in the North East region of the US has been HORRENDOUS this year, cars still getting a fine layer all the way into June!!!

Nothing says upset like having a freshly detailed car covers in fine yellow/green dust. 1 hr after finishing.

That is possible, though NXT 2.0 should last a lot longer than that. Still, depending on the prep of the paint prior to its application, that could also contribute to the life span of the product. Even so, given your description of the situation - wipe off issues on hood only, high ambient temps, engine temp - we still think it's more an issue with the amount of wax present.

I have the same problem with NXT, UQD and UQW, but only on the hood. I try and work on the hood now only when the motor is cold and most of the streaking doesnt occur.

yeahh...maybe i will try to re-wax...

I park in my driveway which is under the tree...so i dont really have a choice, unless i want other cars to hit me by parking out in the street (which is the lesser of two evils?, haha)


I think it's the combination of

1. the fallout from the tree
2. weather getting hot on especially the hood

3. I've been using the MF towel that I used for waxing for the detailing (but still...i used a good detergent and washed in HOT water so it should be free of wax....should I just buy a brand new set of MF towel just for the quik detailing


4. need more wax

The fall out from the tree is probably caused from aphids. The stuff the excrete is called honeydew, best thing to do is wash the car with high quality car wash, clay and so on.

i washed my car today and even afterwards there were these "spots" on it...was this the fallout from the tree? even after a good wash

so what i did was used teh dc 1 paint cleaner to get rid of it...and now i'm going to use some tech wax to seal it up after its cleaned. I'm gonna try to do 2 coats...then hopefully the quik detailer will no longer be streaking anymore

Mist and wipe it quick followed by a clean dry soft MF towel.
No issues here.
