  • Only in the Shade?

I'm just about to finally detail my truck, one last thing I need to know, is it that bad to do it in the direct sun?

Does everything have to be done in the shade? Like even washing?

Can it still be done in direct sunlight? Or is it not worth it?

Depends on what you mean by direct sun?

Direct sun like out in the open in Arizona at noon in August?

Or direct sun like cold winter day with no clouds?

The problem with the sun and warm temperatures is that as the surface temperature increase, it is going to make your product try to dry faster. If you're trying to apply and work a product in and it's drying before your through, you are going to find this frustrating and the results less than expected. This is true of all products no matter what kind of marketing hype they use to convince you otherwise.

Best performance of any product is on a cool surface in the shade.

I was chatting with a auto guy about detailing. He isnt a detailer but seems to know everything about cars and trucks.

He had a customer bring his black lincoln to the shop in a frantic state. He explained that he wanted to wash it, and as he was pre rinsing the car, everywhere he sprayed was turning a white color.

What ended up happening is that it was june or july or whatever, in florida, and he was making the clear coat lift with the water.

This is just a story i heard, and i have no reason to belive that the guy was telling a tall tale.

Supposedly ford had a stretch where they were going way to thin on their clear.

Either way, i wont wash my car until the sun has set abit come summertime.
