Re: Remove Small Orange Rust Spots

I have a 2010 Highlander, pearl white, I was washing it and noticed little rust spots everywhere. I called the dealer and brought it back to their body shop and their manager identified it as rail rust. He said though he couldn't make the call for warranty purposes, and that I would have to bring it back down when the head service manager was in. So I brought it back in (45 minute drive one way) and the head service manager identified it as rail rust but said he couldn't make the call and that a Toyota Factory engineer representative would have to come out and make the call. So I made an appointment at the toyota dealer down the street so the factory rep could see it. I first had the service manager there look at it as well before the rep came and he identified it has rail rust. The factory rep came out inspected it, talked to me like i was beneath him and wrote a report that it was road grime and wasn't covered under warranty and offered 50% off services to take it off. I called toyota and filed a case and they said that the factory rep has final say and my next step would be to contact the Maryland States Attorney General and seek legal adivce and to file suit. I took it back to the dealer I bought it from and said how can 2 certified toyota body shop managers identify it as rail rust and the factory rep has the last say this would be to easy for me in court? anyways, the dealer has had my car for 9 days, and they first tried to claybar it and compound it and it wouldn't come out so now they are wet sanding it. I wonder what it will look like when I finally get it back. on that note after this i won't ever buy a toyota again.

^Hey man, it could be worse. You could have a Mitsubishi and have your warranty completely voided for having a cat-back exhaust and a drop-in filter. I guess the grass is always greener...

I have these little rust spots on my Evo as well. Clay bar doesn't even phase them. Gonna give it the old Swirl/scratchX a try and move up to UC by hand first, then try by DA.
