  • Stoner IG or Meguiars Glass Cleaner

Let me start off by saying how HUGE of a fan of Invisible Glass and a waffle weave MF I am, HUGE. My question is to all of you who have used Meguiars Glass Cleaner Concentrate. Economically, Meguiars wins; 11 gallons for $18, and IG 5 Gallons for $45. So whats the bottom line?

    Thanks,
    Shaun

I was hoping someone else would answer this so you would get the opinion of a non-Meguiar's employee, that said, here's a little story...

When I had a route in Oregon calling on Dealerships, Detail shops and body shops to sell Meguiar's Professional Line, I often found it difficult to get my foot in the door with established detail shops because for the most part, these guys develop a system that works good for them and once they're comfortable with it, there is no reason to change.

When ever I came across a shop like this I would alway offer to leave a sample of Meguiar's Glass Cleaner Concentrate for them to try. I would tell them I would swing back by the next week and pick up the empty bottle and see what they though.

Every shop I left a sample with, purchased either a gallon, or a 5-gallon container of our glass cleaner bar none. These shops used everything on the market and the feedback I would get was always the same,

"This is the best glass cleaner we've ever used"

      FWIW

Here's a picture of my deliver truck, it's a 1966 Chevrolet Milk Truck, hotrodded with a 396 big block chevy. I put racks in the back to hold Meguiar's products. The back is all fiberglass and insulated to keep the milk cold. It worked out great in the summer as it would keep the chemicals from getting too hot.

The best test is the test you do yourself and evaluate with your own two eyes.

That truck is too cool, how did you afford to soupe that thing up to sell Meg's products?

            Shaun,

I've used both Stoner's IG and the Meguiar's glass cleaner........ along with SprayWay glass cleaner and a number of others. The Stoner's is certainly one of the ones at the top of a short list (although I like SprayWay a little better). Having said that, I will also say that I find the Meguiar's glass cleaner to also be excellent, and if you include cost into the equation, the Meguiar's stuff is hard to beat.

To be honest, I find that the type of towel used also has some effect on the performance of different types of window cleaners. I find that the aerosol cleaners seem to work better with a slightly more aggressive towel (I actually use a small WW towel) as opposed to a thinner MF (like the Meguiar's Wipe). On the other side of the coin, the liquids seem to work better with the thinner MF's. Of course, that could just be me.

I agree with the towels.... I have found terry cotton towels work best with IG for me.

I used IG but changed over to Meguiar's concentrate. IG was good but sometimes streaked. I used the wally world micros with IG. The Megs brand is great with 2 Ultimate wipes. I have not tryed IG with the Ultimate wipes though.

Another thing to consider is the smell of the Meguiar's product. I get many compliments from my clients about how well the interior of their car smells when I switched to Megs. I use all detailer line products and the interior products have a great after smell. Point is people noticed that and like it.

I saw yesterday that Wal-Mart ow carries the glass wizard which is a great tool to have for cleaning windows. Many props to WGC by Meg's, my favorite.

The Glass Wizard is actually a pretty good tool. I'm in a minority of those who don't like IG. I tried several cans getting the same disappointing ,streaking effect no matter what wiping material I used: mf, cotton ,paper towel, newspaper, etc.

I've been using a water:alcohol mix since and sometimes a vinegar based glass cleaner first with better, but not perfect results. So I'm on the hunt for a new glass cleaner. May be I'll have to follow one with the other. The Meguiars sounds promising and I'll keep it on the list of new cleaners to try.

I've always been a fan of IG. The aerosol design allows me to spray a small amount on a MF towel, and then apply it to the glass.

However, I would be interested in Meguiar's glass cleaner as it seems very economical. In addition to this, I would not mind something that has more of a pleasant smell. I love the cleaning ability of IG, but sometimes that smell can make you light-headed if not used in a well-ventilated area.

Is Meguiar's Glass Cleaner available through local distributors?

Yes...any dealer that can bring Meguiar's products should also be able to have in stock or order the Meguiar's Glass Cleaner Concentrate. Trust me, you will love the stuff!
