  • Ultimate Polish - which pad?

I search the forum but didn't see the answer. The finsh on my 2010 black Corvette is nearly perfect after using 205 with the Soft Buff Yellow Polishing pad with my #110 D/A. To get the most shine and finish off the prep before Ultimate Wax I want to use Ultimate Ploish.

If I used a Soft Buff Black Finishing pad would it polish the finish to a "jewel" finish or should I stick witht the Yellow Polishing pad? I guess there is a third choice ... one pass with the Yellow Polishing pad followed by a pass with the Black Finishing pad. I would prefer one step.

    Thanks for your help.

I would use a black pad as you have already carried out defect removal with 205 on a yellow pad.

Do you have any marring after 205? If so I would suggest speed 4 on a black pad with moderate pressure then follow this up with speed 3 on a black pad.

If the finish is great and you are just simply looking for extra gloss and shine. I would go straight to speed 3 on black pad prior to applying wax/sealant.

Using the Finishing Pad should leave the nicest finish... but you may want to just do a test spot of each.

You are, to some extent, duplicating your own efforts here. Ultimate Polish is derived from M205 and is sort of like the consumer version of that product. It has a bit less cut but more polishing oils than M205, however. If you intend to follow M205/yellow pad with UP we'd suggest going with the black W9207 finishing pad at speed 3 to 4 with just light to moderate pressure. The higher level of oils in UP may well help to further darken the finish, though M205 does a pretty terrific job of that on it's own.

By all means, give it a go, but don't be disappointed if you don't see a huge difference when using UP after M205. That said, we would expect the additional oils in UP to provide some positives on black paint.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I will let you know the results after I use UP with the black finishing pad.
