  • Ultimate Wax questions

First hi everyone new here and would like to shine up my 2011 Dodge big horn. I heard alot of good thing about the Ultimate liquid wax so I want to try it. So some questions,, The truck is black and I am trying and hoping to not put swirl marks in it

Do I need to wash it with say Dawn like with Zaino?
Should I clay it first? I just got it last Sat
What should I apply it with and remove it with?
Can I or should I use the quick detailer spray afterwards?

Hopefully the dealer didnt add/hide any for you, but you'll find out.

Sounds like you want to keep it simple, but do a decent job. If it were me, I would at least look at this:

    1. Wash - Gold Class Soap, 2 buckets, good quality towels, etc.
    2. Clay - Smooth Surface Clay kit
    3. Cleaner/Wax - ColorX is often prefered, but you could use the regular Cleaner/Wax as well (the kit will have a sample size).
    4. Wax - Ultimate Wax, or other favorite of course.

Do I need to wash it with say Dawn like with Zaino?
    No...

    Yes....

I like to use the smooth foam applicators. I think a black one will come with your wax, yellow is the usual color. However, usually have to buy them online, hard to find in stores.

Microfiber (MF) towels are preferred for removing. The Meguiars Supreme Shines are popular here of course, but other brands are good also.

If you were ordering a bunch of things (towels, applicators, wax, etc), and you looked at Autodetailingsolutions.com, he has some bulk towels that are also good.

Can I or should I use the quick detailer spray afterwards?
Dont really need to. Good to have some QD around though for birds, etc.

A spray wax like Ultimate Quick Wax is nice for after future washes.

        Re: Ultimate Wax questions

        Welcome to Meguiar's Online.

        Congratulations on your new ride.

Ultimate Quik Wax and Ultimate Quik Detailer are maintenance products: you use them between regular waxing and regular washing.

You want to protect your new car's paint so here's what you need to do:

        1. wash it with car wash - Gold Class Shampoo/ Conditioner or Ultimate Wash & Wax would be good,
        2. clay it - if needed, if your vehicle's paint feels rough that's an indication of bonded contaminants,
        3. polish - optional step, Ultimate Polish or M07 Show Car Glaze would be good,
        4. wax/ protection - your favorite finishing wax either natural (carnauba) or synthetic (sealant),
        5. maintainance - Ultimate Quik Detailer as light dust/contaminants remover between washes, Ultimate Quik Wax between regular waxing after car wash as wax booster.

            Re: Ultimate Wax questions

11hemi, maybe think about using Ultimate Polish also. I have a 2007 Black Dodge Ram Big Horn and Ult Polish really brought out the metallic flakes in the paint.

I do 5 step process starting with washing with Gold Class, then clay bar with Meguiars Smooth Clay, then used Ult Compound, Ult Polish and finished with 2 coats of Ult Wax.

I tell just my opinion, but I used Nxt Wax 2.0 before Ult Wax and the Nxt wax seemed like it gave my truck a wetter look. But, it has been 2 months since I waxed my truck with the Ult Wax and it is still beading up real nice. So for me is going to be a toss up between what I want, a wet look for the paint with Nxt or the durability from Ult Wax, but either one, I will still use Ult Polish.

Good luck and welcome to the forum

              Re: Ultimate Wax questions

              Sure, could look like:

              1. Wash
              2. Clay
              3. Ult. Polish
              4 Wax
              5. Wax

An extra step, but likely will look a little better. Just a matter of how much time to put into it really.

You can apply circular or straight, whatever fits the panel you are working on.

Quick Detailer is most common. You will get some if you buy the kit, and may want to buy an extra bottle.

Is the Ultimate paste better then the liquid on new paint?

Doesnt really matter. But the paste version can stain trim some.

I personally like the paste better than the liquid.

is the paste more abrasive than the liquid? Will it leave swirls? last any longer?
Any suggestions on a trim product

No, neither will be abrasive, same protection. Just whichever you like to work with.

Ultimate Protectant/Black seems pretty good on trim.
