  • Meguiars Gold Class Leather Cleaner/Conditioner on Katzkins

So I just put some new Katzkins leathers in my car:

And boy, what a difference they make over the stock leather/vinyl that was in there before.

Reading the card that came with my Katzkins, they say that they recommend Mothers Leather conditioner on their leathers, and not to use a Silicone based product. Now basically I think they are saying not to use anything that is made for dash/plastic/rubber on the leathers, but it is tough to tell, as no one really says if their products are silicone based or not.

So basically, is the Gold Class Leather Cleaner/Conditioner safe for use on my Katzkins? I'm pretty certain it is, but before I put anything on them, I just want to make sure. From searching it looks like other people have used it with success. Is there something better to use as well? This is just what I have, but I'm not opposed to ordering something in, if it will be better for my seats. They look and feel great, and I want to keep them that way.

And also, they have only been on the car a couple of days, is it better to get some conditioner on them right away, or should I let them sit for a while before putting anything onto them? Does it make any difference? Thanks!

Interesting point. I need to know as well. Do not want to damage anything in mine either.

Beautiful seats, understated and elegant. IMO if Katzkins says don't use silicone then that still leaves lots of products, & if they recommend Mothers why not use it? The price is competitive with most other conditioners. Sure they may get paid for recommending one product over another but if it was me I'd try the Mothers before anything else. If you don't like the look you can always try another brand. An email to a knowledgable person at Megs or other companies can clarify whether their conditioners have silicone. Enjoy your new seats.

I had a 2003 GMC Truck with charcoal grey Katzkin Leather seats a few years back. All I used was Meguiars Leather Cleaner and Conditioner and never had problems. Beautiful results, super soft seat, better then the ones in my 2007 Avalanche.

Again Katzkin is a synthetic leather blend and the general rule for leather is not to use silicone products since they will stain. You will be fine with Meguiars.

Enjoy the seats and yes, I would get a coat on them as soon as possible.

If Mother's leather products are OK on these seats we're confident that you can also safely use Meguiar's or any other reputable brand of leather care products on the market. That's not to say there aren't differences between them, just that none of us are using ingredients that will be inherently damaging to the material, cause it to dry out, etc.

Thanks guys! I'll get a coat of Meguiars cleaner and conditioner on them tonight. Unfortunately it is tough to find Mothers or Meguiars leather cleaners locally, so this is why I'm wondering about my options. I happen to have some Meguiars right now, so I want to use it.

Most of what I can find here, is the Meguiars leather spray, Auto Glym, or Amorall Paste.
