  • Need a Little Input

My wife as like many I am sure thinks I am off my rocker when it comes to detailing. Being new to the more intense process of what is growing into an obsession I have taken the plunge, ordered my PC 7424xp along with Lake Country pads (orange, white & gray) also have purchased Meguiars 105/205 and #83 DA cleaner polish. I have also ordered the #7 show glaze polish and #21 sealer & was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on use and combinations when it comes to these specific products any suggestions before use would appreciated. I will not be using the cutting pads or compounds on the 2011 Xterra but the 2003 before apply the polish and sealer, I hope to get everything by next weekend & will keep you posted on the results!

    to MOL!

Meguiar's always recommends to use the least aggressive method in getting the job done. I would first start out with a test spot just to see how your paint reacts to the products first before tackling the entire car. After you found the process that achieves the goal you want then you can use that process throughout the entire car.

Great choices of products! I'm assuming that you would like to remove swirl marks or paint defects right? If so then M105/M205/M83 are the right products for this job. The first 2 uses SMAT while the last one uses the DAT. If it was me, I would just stick with the SMAT products because of its effectiveness and ease of use.

Now back to your test spot, I would first try and use M205 with the LC white polishing pad and see how the paint reacts... This combo is very light in terms of swirl removal so depending on the severity of the defects, you might not achieve the results you want. If it didn't then I would step it up to using M205 with the LC orange light cutting pad. This kicks up the aggressiveness a notch. If it still didn't achieve the level of correction you're looking for then I would use M105 with the LC orange light cutting pad. This should take care of your swirl marks or paint defects for the most part. After doing this then I would follow up the M105 step with M205 step with the LC black/grey finishing pad. After this you can use M7 show car glaze with the LC black/grey finishing pad but this is an optional step because the M205 is rich in polishing oils and should have rejuvenated the paint finish already. Once all the polishing is done then you can apply a coat of M21 sealant with the LC black/grey finishing pad. I hope this made sense. If not please let us know.

Please keep in mind not to use a pad with different products.

    Good luck!
