  • Help me pick products to use with my 7424XP?

Never used anything but my hands to work on the paint on any of my cars. Got a 7424XP for Xmas and haven't used it yet.

My wife's and my car are both newer VWs so I don't need to do anything serious. Just basic buffing/polishing and wax/sealer.

Have been exploring whats available on Autogeeks and think I got the pads and stuff sorted. So far, I think I'll get a Lake Country 3.5" and 5" backing plates and then some different CCS pads for the various stages.

And a couple bonnets for wax removal I guess?

What chemical do I use for all this? Was hoping to just stick with Meguiars since thats what I've always used in the past. I keep hearing about the 105/205 but I don't think I'd ever need anything that strong?

And for wax just something like the NXT 2.0 liquid wax? Apply with something like a blue pad and use a bonnet to clean off when its dry, right?

Or Meguiars #7 and #21 instead of the NXT but what to use for polishing? The 205? Or is the #7 a waste since I have clearcoat over my paint?

Thanks for any help, I really know theres TONS of different ways and chemical to do all this. Just trying to keep it simple since I'm a beginner!

Not sure the exact colors you would want, but polishing/finishing pads. Shouldn't need different levels of each.

You can use MF bonnets for wax removal. You may want a cutting pad to use under the bonnet.

#105 is strong, #205 is mild. So if the paint only needed mild, that is all you need. Would want to do a test spot of course with the #205, see if it does what you want.

If you were to go with a mild cleaner and a strong cleaner starting off just to cover everything, I would probably go #205 and Ultimate Compound.

    Possibly blue....

    But yeah, thats the idea.

#7 is a pure polish, meaning just oils, so nothing that is protective like a wax. You would use #7 after #205 if wanted, however #205 is a cleaner/polish, so has some oils already.

Not to say #7 is a waste, it can still add a little to the looks. But #205 will get you most or all of the same looks on its own, being that you have a newer clearcoated car.

Nxt 2.0 or Ultimate Wax are fine choices.

    So to keep it simple:

    1. Wash
    2. Clay
    3. #205
    4. Wax
    5. Wax

Is about all you need to do.

Is #21 preferred over something like the NXT 2.0?

#21 2.0 and Nxt 2.0 are basically the same product.
