  • spray paint inside of a car

My car got stolen and was vandalized using spray paint. They sprayed the entire inside of the car from the carpet, dashboard, lcd screen, leather seat up to the headliner. Question is will the paint spray come off without damaging the plastic and finish of the car? I was asked to post in here by another car forum to get a idea from the detailing guys if my ride is fixable or not.

    thanks!

    Any chance of pics?

I am sure something will be damaged a little at least... if not a lot getting it off.

magic eraser...won't that scratch the surface of the materials? And I think you will need a box full of that and a lot of elbox grease :P

In a previous life, I saw a fair amount of vandalism. That ranks right up there as some of the most mean spirited. If they weren't before, they had to be high on paint fumes inside that car.

Good luck with that and I hope the perpetrators are apprehended.

Really sorry to hear that this happened to your car, colt45. I can't even bring myself to look at the pictures. I would get too upset over it. Hope you are able to get things fixed up.

Re: spray paint inside of a car

That is bad- I'm sorry to even see that- as Blue Apollo said- that makes be sick just seeing them.

I don't think you're looking at anything that will just wipe up with an interior cleaner, or a compound. The magic erasers are probably going to be your best bet, but I really think that you're going to see some damage no matter what you do. That's sickening...

I've never done much with acetone or the like, so I don't know if it's viable or not, but maybe something watered down? I'm just thinking out loud. The problem is, most of those interior dash parts are painted, so anything you try to remove paint with is going to be removing the spraypaint, as well as the panel paint.

What did you insurance say? I would think that would be eligible for a comprehensive deductible since it wasn't your fault, no?

Re: spray paint inside of a car

I would have to say that this vandalism is at the top of the worst I have seen. The last vandalism job we did had 20lbs of fine silica sand that was dumped in the truck by the guys ex gf...that was a nightmare. But what you have is major damage to interior components and trim and your vehicle has been "VIOLATED" big time!!!

I suggest you file a claim with your insurance agent, this is going to cost alot of money....dont even try the magic eraser, this will need some major R&R of interior components...

Really sorry about your ride, it's a damn shame what classless people would do to someone else's belongings. Hope it works out for you.

Re: spray paint inside of a car

I already told my insurance and was told that it will be repaired but the detail shop told me there is no guarantee for the repairs. Now this is becoming a real headache if after they "fix" it it won't look and feel like before it was vandalized as the car hasn't been used that much at all. You can still smell the new car smell on the car everytime you go in now you can smell paint/leather/plastic inside all mixed-up. For 5 years it was only driven around 20k and always been detailed to the teeth every 3 weeks (I am just a crazy waxer like you guys)

So you guys think I will not hold my hopes high on my ride after this incident and fight the insurance company to replace everything rather than fix it?

To those who are professional detailers what is your take on this? is it fixable without damaging the finish and if it will cost a fortune to clean it rather than replace it?

                          OMG ...it really looks abused...
it will be really difficult to remove the paint with out damaging the surfaces and panels...

try to ask the insurance to go for changing the major parts of the dash and the LCD...
then try to clean the rear seat and door trims...

                          good luck buddy

Re: spray paint inside of a car

Your insurance company is being a bunch of *#$%s. One of the problems will be ghosting. If you get a poor job done or even a good one, they tend to concentrate on the heavily painted areas and end up with ghosting. Of course, you've got so much paint in there the whole interior must be cleaned with the same process from top to bottom.

Keep on the insurance company. This is not your fault, you shouldn't be made to suffer as a result.
