      Re: waxing matte cars

Basically Car wash soap and quick detailer.... and that is it. Any compounds polishes, and waxes will remove the matte look and make it shine.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

      I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
      Remove swirls my friends.

Matte or Satin Finish Paint - if polished with traditional polishes the finish will become less matte and glossier over time; do not wet-sand or use conventional wax or use an automatic car wash that uses hot wax in the final rinse, as the flattening agents that cause the matte appearance will become ‘levelled ‘The textured finish is accomplished by a diffused 30 degree reflection and are retained very close to the clear coat surface. By levelling the surface the light will be reflected evenly and result in a ‘shine’.

You're an impatient one, aren't you Simon?! Two posts with the same question AND an email to me with same!

Unfortunately, as others have already mentioned, waxing a matte finish is going to start putting a shine to it so you're very limited in choices. A light application of our Ultimate Quik Wax, preferably sprayed onto a microfiber towel and then wiped onto the paint, is about the best you're going to be able to do. Keep in mind that if you start to get any fine swirls or even very light scratches in this paint, you can NOT buff them out. Doing so will leave a very shiny spot on the car - the scratch will be gone but the shiny area will likely be even more noticeable than the scratch was.

BMW offers a similar paint, with a multi part release form that the purchaser must sign prior to delivery stating he understands the downfalls of such a paint finish.

Swissvax does make a wax specifically for matte finishes, but at almost $20 per application it's a bit pricey. Ultimate Quik Wax will likely give you a very similar appearance and a good bit of protection, for pennies per application.

Stay away from our polish/waxes like Gold Class Carnauba Plus, NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 or Ultimate Wax as the polishing oils in them will start to add gloss to the finish. Ultimate Quik Detailer can be used regularly, between washes, to remove light dust and fingerprints without adding gloss.
