  • How much Swirl X to use?

    Hi there,

I was wondering how much Swirl X I should use on a Meguiar's 6.5 or 7 inch pads. I usually make an 'X' across the pad, use it on a 2 x 2 ft square, then add another 'X' for the next area.
Is this the right amount? Am I using too much?
The reason for my question is that I've seen other users of swirl removing products (Meguiar's / other brands) making the spiral, which puts more product on the pads, and some who only use three to four pea-sized drops on their pads. Does the 'less is more' phrase also apply with swirl removing products?

Any comments or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

When you are removing swirls, you have to have product, with abrasives, covering the area you are going to work.

So while you dont want too much, you have to have some. It isnt like wax where once the pad is wet, you can do whole panels.

An X or Circle around the edge is fine. But be sure to 'Clean on the Fly' after each panel.

Phew, thank goodness I'm on the right track... thanks Murr1525! So is it safe to assume that this method would also be correct on other abrasive natured products, like UC or UP? I recently got a bottle of UC that I'm planning to use on my in-law's car. Since it's going to be repainted soon, I get to practice on it - hope I can get my hands on a rotary before the paint job!

Yeah, more or less. Different products behave a bit different of course, and if just removing dirt, you can work bigger areas, that sort of thing. But for swirls, small areas, slow movement, clean the pad. Even change pads once or twice.
