  • Claybar kicked my butt!

Well, clayed my Mustang (Deep Forest Green) today before doing my spring wax... WOW it waas a bit more work than I expected. Some spots went quick and easy but many did not (like the entire driver side door).

Anways, I finished up and got a good coat of the cleaner wax on there to help since I didn't use any thing after the claybar. Was going to top with NXT2.0 but ran out of time and energy. Figuring next time I have time I'll give her a good wash with UWW and go right to the NXT. Does anybody see a problem with this approach? Of course, if the need is there maybe I'll throw down another cleaner/wax coat first just to clean up a bit, but it shouldn't be necessary.

On an aside, when do you know a piece of clay is "used up"?

What clay bar kit did you use?

Did you keep the surface well lubricated?

Meg's Smooth Surface, and yes. Ened up using almost the entire bottle of detailer!

what year is your pony? Sounds like you had quite a bit of surface contaminates. Next time (if there is a next) you might want to go more aggressive. Check out both the Mild and Aggressive.

Car is a 1996 GT drop-top. Yeah, definately did in some spots. Like I said, was weird how clean it was in some spots, too.

Anyways, still have a bit of tar spatter behind the wheels, just couldn't get it off. Will the more aggressive clay do the trick or should I look for some type of tar remover?

Clay, tar remover, stronger paint cleaner.

As a general rule, clay is used to pull things you cant see out of your clear coat you cant see along with caked on bug guts and some amounts of tar from your vehicles finish.

Almost every detailer should have tar remover in their arsenal. I suggest getting tar remover for that spot since you already clayed the entire car. It will be a better move to have both products for future use.

Good Luck! 96 was good year for the mustang, does yours have the tan leather interior with the tan top or is it the black top and interior?

Really is a good car, although I'll be replacing it soon with a '12. She's got the "saddle" leather with the "saddle" top, unfortunately the leather is pretty much shot due to previous ownerships but I got a gorgeous low-mile take off 2004 "Terminator" canvas top waiting to replace the aged vinyl!

Paint seems real thin though, seems to pic up scratched to the primer (or even the zinc layer) super easy...
