  • Carnuaba vs synthetic wax

Was wondering which wax should I use...tech wax 2.0 or gold class.

    I have a black mazda 3 hatchback

I do want the wet look so I might go with the gold class since it seems from the article that carnuaba wax gives more "deep wet look" more than the synthetic wax

The only drawback of carnuaba is that it doesn't last as long as synthetic wax, which is ok because I plan on wash and detailing often

    and is ultimate wax synthetic?

Ultimate Wax is 100% synthetic (it's a sealant).

If you can't decide then you can go with two layers: NxT Tech Wax 2.0 first and after at least 12 hours top it with Gold Class Carnauba Plus. Many detailers use this combo successfully.

I used them both on this red Fiat:

Use synthetic and save the poor little carnubas!

Im a fan of Ultimate Wax for my daily drivers but I prefer a Carnuba (Gold Class) for classic show cars.

Each wax gives off different reflections and tones under lighting. Its best to experiment (unless its cost prohibited for you) with different waxes and combinations.

Some on here love NXT 2.0 topped with Gold Class! That was my old muse before Ultimate Liquid wax came out. Its all up to you and of course, what looks best on your vehicle.

i have to park outside (no garage)

If I chose to go the nxt and then gold class on top route...

do I have to wash the car again before I put on the gold class 12 hours later?

No, I would make sure the paints surface is dust free. I would hit the car with a california car duster followed by a quick detailer. If your going NXT, NXT makes a great quick detailer, Ultimate Quick Detailer is class act too.

I have the quick detailer...so basically in place of a "car wash" I can just spray the quick detailer on and wipe off with MF towel...then go at it with the gold class?

I have followed the advice here and really like the look of the carnuba over the sealer. Durability doesn't appear to be an issue. Carnuba seems to soften the defects in a aging and delicate finish.

I have decided that I probably won't have time (and money, haha) to put tech 2.0 first and then the gold class..

I have decided to just put on the gold class (since I'm looking for the rich deep shine on my black car)

Since Carnuaba wax is not a synthetic based wax, does it mean I'm sacrificing protection? (since I'm understanding that the synthetic waxes are sealants and the carnuaba waxes are not)

Sacrificing protection? Ehh, hard to say, esp if you are keeping up with things anyway. Washing often, spray wax after.

As far as Meguiars advertising goes, Ult. Wax is the 'best protecting'. Before that it was Nxt 2.0. Before that it was Nxt. So a bit of a trend at least s far as what Meguiars finds 'best protecting'. Not sure what factors go into that though. Probably some combination of longevity, bird poop resistance, sap resistance, other chemicals ,etc.
