  • Caked on wheel dust

So, I got lazy over the winter time up here in good ole Taxachusetts, and my wheels took a real beating(sorry no pics). In addition to some clear coat failure around the center caps, which I know a full recon is in order, I have caked on brake dust. The pads that come stock on my car are pretty aggressive, so they dust like crazy. It's totally my fault for letting it slide for so long. I seem to have spots on the spokes that will not come off with meg's wheel cleaner. Also, I have specks of dust on the face of the wheels that just don't seem to want to come out. I've tried washing with wheel cleaner twice last time I washed the car, but to no avail.

My question is what would be the next steps as far as aggressiveness is concerned.

    Thanks in advance.

If they are painted, you can use an old piece of clay, and a paint cleaner like SwirlX or Ultimate Compound.

Can you share as much information about the wheel type and materials as possible? It will completely depend on what you are working on.

Also, what style are these wheels? If you could provide a model number etc it could help.

They are silver painted stock Enkei wheels that come on a Lancer Evolution X GSR all years.

The 5 spokes painted rims on my sister 07 Civic EX were yellow from the brake dust accumulated during the winter. APC would not touch it at all. I got them looking like new in 5 minutes with Meg's Wheel Brightener.
