  • Which product to use on single stage paint

The lower portion of my motor home is single stage painted aluminum doors and fiberglass fenders. When I polish these areas a lot of paint transfers to the pad. There is some cloudiness/oxidizing in some areas but not all. I have the DA and cutting, polishing and finishing pads. Which product should I use on these painted areas??

Which pad are you using on the DA? I detailed a 68 Chevelle last spring with single stage red paint sprayed in the 1980's. The car sat outside most of it's life and was severely oxidized. After cleaning the paint, I used Ultimate Compound on my G110V2 with a yellow polishing pad. I too had a lot of paint transfer into my pad but the paint did not haze. It cleaned up very nicely, especially after I followed with DC polish, DC carnauba wax, and a wipe down with ultimate quick wax.

The yellow pad is a great choice. The burgundy cutting pad can cause hazing when used on a DA. Sometimes Ultimate Compound will cause light hazing on very soft paints. Try following the Ultimate Compound with a polish like Ultimate Polish or Deep Crystal Polish and then a sealant or wax.

Paint transfer to your pads or towels is normal with single stage paint.

#80 is always a great choice, lots of oils for the paint.
