  • Protecting front end before clear bra?

Hey guys - I just bought my new car last week and my clear bra installer doesn't have any openings until a week from today. I'm really worried about marking up the front of the car before the bra is installed. Is there anything I can do to protect the front of my car in the interim? I put a nice thick coat of wax on the front portion of the hood and bumper, but I'm curious if there is anything beyond that I can do.

    Thanks

Not really, besides the cloth bras.

You'll certainly want it cleaned/swirl free before the bra is put on, but any oils/waxes will need removed. I would imagine the installer will handle removing the oils, etc, but swilrs may be up to you.

If you're really that worried, I would put blue painters tape on your front end until your clear bra gets installed.

Yeah, that's what I was going to suggest. You will likely use up about $10 worth of tape...and your car will look silly in the meantime, but it will do the trick as a temporary guard.

          Not a bad idea.

You can always just park the car. Then rent something really cheap to get you around for the week.

Thanks for the advice guys - I guess I'll just try and keep it garaged for as long as possible until then. I did see some adverts for a "spray on clear bra" but I can't see that working, even for a few days.

I used the blue masking tape on my truck before the Bra was put on. +1 on that

The problem is my installers rubbed alcohol pads on the front end and left tiny swirl marks on the front of my hood. So I have a perfectly detailed truck with light scratches under the bra. Its not a big deal but I know its there when im inspecting my truck under direct sunlight.

I do suggest finding a reputable installer who has been in business for more then 2 years.

BTW are you going with 3m?

I've used the same installer for my past few vehicles, he's very good. I'm going with Xpel, as I've had success with them in the past.

When I bought my car (new), I made an appointment for a clear bra install to be done a week or two later...In that timeframe I got a rock chip in the hood, right where the bra would have protected it!

                      Absolutely +1

For the cost of a rental vs the possibilty of chips and nicks on the vehicle before the wrap......this is the obvious choice.

Griots Garage has a temporary film to use for this purpose. Not pretty, but should work. Otherwise, painters tape. I would suggest removal if rain is forecast, then reapply.
