Hi all,
So, I decided it was time to get the nasty oxidation off of our 2002 530i BMW (it's only on the hood) and did a ton of research on products before I decided to test first Scratch-X 2.0 and then Ultimate Compound. Washed and clayed hood and then did a test patch of both and of the two, U.C. gave the best results. Followed through on the patches with Ultimate Polish -- absolutely gorgeous results!
Here's where I got a little...hairbrained. When I started to use the U.C. again on the rest of the vehicle, I encountered resistance. Having read that it was helpful to put a polish on the car to aid in using compound, I then polished the entire hood with Ultimate Polish. Here's the...hairbrained...part -- apparently that technique is only used for single-stage paint, not for clear-coat. As a result, the U.C. no longer is effective on the car and basically just smears around or dries so hard I can't remove it. If I time it -just right- I can get it clear after 8 or so tries but it's unpredictable and for the most part there seems to be no rhyme or reason to how to get it off.
I tried claying again, I tried washing again, I tried using Deep Crystal Cleaner, even rubbing alcohol but nothing seems to get the polish off.
Does anyone have any advice for me? Do I have to let the polish "cure" or is there something that will take it off so I can once again have a clean surface to use the U.C. on?
