  • problem with collinite 915

hi guyz..wanna ask something..I just finished little detailing of my car..and when i use collinite 915 for finishing wax by hand, i read on the can that i apply, let haze and then wipe..but, when i left it just for a few minutes, it hardens!!!and it's so hard to remove..

I hav 2 use QD to wipe it off..bcoz of that, i quickly wipe it as soon as i apply it..is it Okay??does the wax still there??why is it become so HARD to remove??

and also..i notice people use vinegar after washing their towel..how to use it??is it just towels or can be use to pad as well??

    thx..

You may be applying too much, hence making it too hard to remove. That principle applies to many other waxes (LSPs) too.

Also maybe you are waiting too long after it hazes. You need to remove it as soon as it starts to haze.

thats a hard wax to remove even if you apply it properly. I have a feeling you used too much.

          1. Apply very very thin, how can you do this: try to wipe it on your car's glasees, if you can still see smear, then it can still be applied.
          2. Two panels max then buff
          3. As usual, don't get it under direct sunlight

          Alternative method:
          1. Use 4" spot finishing pad (I think meguiars carry them) with D/A machine, guarantees even and uniform application
          2. Same 2 panels max then buff rule apply

I like using D/A better, though getting the pad inside the can might be a little tricky, but i get better result and reduce this LSP waterspot problem tremendously

Collinite 915 ia collinite's deepest gloss providing car wax, although marginally not as long lasting as 476s. What I do is not to let it haze for too long or leave it for too long or it will be difficult to remove. And you have to apply it real thin, a little goes a long way with this wax. You also can apply it using a damp foam applicator to be able to apply it real real thin. The appeal of this wax (and 476s) is the durability, shine and water beading but ease of use is.. well, meguiars makes easy to use waxes/polishes that can match collinite easily.

I use a quik detailer to remove any excess (or a light spray of water) wax residue or a damp applicator or maybe reapply wax to any problem spots and remove any excess before the wax dries..

Honestly, i didn't find the 476s too hard to remove.. Easy, but meguiars is alot easier.. almost effortless.

If you cant apply collinite THIN, dont use it.

I would try Ultimate Paste Wax or Liquid instead. The protection is comparable if not better with a great deep shine

                  Re: problem with collinite 915

The collinites I've used (476 and 845) gives a brighter look than my current meguiars wax, the NXT 2.0, the nxt 2.0 is no pushover when put side by side against Collinite/s. You just gotta love the ease of use megs waxes provide.. It makes waxing enjoyable!

I'd go the paste route.. the nxt paste is a bit more difficult to use vs. liquid, but i had no issues with streaking or smearing. Just a nice even finish

Well, one method that i try with my silver paint (since it's too damn hard to differentiate with or without light):
rub your pad against the window, if you can still see/feel the smear then it'll do the same on your panels.. other words: wax will be applied just the same.. just apply it with light but firm pressure to ensure even coverage.

When in doubt after applying for a while, do it against the window again... a clean window means that you need to rub the pad onto the tin can again...
