My car has lots of swirls on it and I'm wondering if I should purchase DACP to get it out or will a combination of #80 and ColorX each with a polishing pad with PC at #5 help?

It's somewhat severe. I am willing to purchase just one more liquid (my wife is starting to look at me differently now with this new hobby ) but DACP is a lot of liquid. Maybe more than I need. I'm pretty sure Speed Glaze can manage most of the time leaving me with 32oz of liquid that's not going to be used a lot.

Any suggestions? Maybe I can try something else. Or maybe I can attain #83 in a smaller quantity.

If the swirls are really severe it is probably going to take #83 and the polishing pad via pc. #80 is okay if the swirls are fairly light, but it will not remove heavy swirls with a pc. Also, colorx is a chemical cleaner that is designed to remove oxidation not swirls and scratches. I would go for #83 personally and push for the #80 as well.

Well, the DACP is certainly more likey to get out the swirls than #80 and/or ColorX if the swirls are bad. However, why not try a couple passes with the #80 to see how it works............. then go from there.

I'm ordering a new pad kit and some other supplies and wanted to see should I purchase it all at once (to save on shipping).

I can't currently test anything since it's too cold and it just snows and snows.

Mike showed me a thread where he did a 1940s Ford or maybe something coupe where he used only ColorX and a hand pad and got some swirls out. Maybe I can dig it out.

          Hey,

Meguiar's ColorX contains both chemical cleaners as well as diminishing abrasives. However, it is not that aggressive but will remove light marring. However your description of the swirls, if 2 passes with #80 Speed Glaze does not remove the marring, you will need to use #83 DACP. And even then, some swirls will beyond what a PC can handle and will require the use of a rotary buffer.

So, as the others have said, try a couple of passes with #80 first. If that does not work, #83 will be then needed.

I am a big fan of 83, so if you buy it and have some left that you want to sell off, pm me

                Hey toyotaowner

Well, looking at that picture, I would say that you will need #83 DACP to remove the marring. Though I would still try #80 first, I would bet that you will need the #83.

                Keep us posted!

The picture actually shows very little damage. You should see my trunk lid and the roof.

And I do have lots of etching. Maybe I can spend the $18.99.

Too bad Meguiars doesn't offer a smaller quantity for people like me.

The pic is my Camry and my Sienna has light swirls and I am afraid of removing too much clearcoat so I'm guessing #80 and ColorX is most likely enough

Also, can you polish too much and remove too much clearcoat? What problems can arise from that. Too me, the #83 seems a bit too aggressive. Any insight. I surely don't want any liquid go to waste.

                    toyotaowner,

I would agree with Tim.......... based on that last picture, you'll probably need #83, especially if you say there are areas that are even worse. Keep in mind that you don't have to use #83 over the entire vehicle.......... just where it is needed.

To answer your other questions........... Yes, you can over polish and remove too much clear coat. Keep in mind that #83 is still a "mildly" abrasive polish when compared to some other products, and if used properly, you shouldn't have any problems. Of course, I wouldn't recommned using it "frequently"!

How would a monthly cleaning be? Too much? Of course only if needed. Or Maybe #83 1/2 a year with #80 and ColorX in between?

Guess I might need to get another polishing pad too.

                        Hey,

I would suggest using #83 about 2 times per year, and #80 about 4 times per year. After that, as long as a person is careful on how it is washed and dried, the paint should be just fine!!
