  • Ideal detailing location?

Does anyone know what's the ideal place to do detailing work? Inside a garage or under the sun? I usually do it inside the garage (underground), but it's hard to see any swirl mark - and sometimes I even created a few swirls marks in the process, and I only discover that after I dove the car outside the next day. Most people advise against washing car under the sun, but what is the disadvantage? What's your recommendation for checking swirl marks while detailing? Thanks!

i think the garage with the door open playing some good music is ideal!!

Don't do anything out in the sun - heat is the enemy of detailing...
You don't want anything to dry on the paint.

Do it inside a garage, or at the very least if you have no other option, in a carport - so you are still in the shade.

Get yourself some adequate lighting to be able to see defects....get some halogen lights as a starting point.

          You said ideal.
A combination of all of these:

          Well lit similar to Macdudes

Water and floor drain similar to Tuck91

Spacious, warm in the winter, easy access to California sun, fully equipped,
easy access to plenty of product, and complete with an excellent instructor

Or one like Kornercarver and include a set of halogen lights for dark, cloudy days.

Although working underground, the temperature is pretty consistent. Maybe all you need is some halogen lights. Fairly cheap at Home Depot. At a minimum, perhaps a Brinkmann light.

Thanks for all the reply! Unfortunately there is no electricity plug in at the underground parking, does anyone know a good light that can operate in battery and works for car detailing?

Swirl Finders are a good tool but its not a "Work Light"
