  • Factory exhaust.

I am kind of anal about my details and I feel like going the extra step on factory(or aftermarket for that matter) exhaust is a plus, even if it is just for me and the customer never notices.

But, this is killing me. I can get the to look better but can not seem to get them to shine up, and in some cases can not get dirt/light corrosion to come out. I had NO problem on any of my previous cars, but int he case of my 07 HHR as well as an 08 GMC, so far I haven't got the results I want.

What exactly IS factory exhaust? The GMC is just factory piping all the way back and the exit is being a pain. On ym personal car the stock muffler is also being a pain.

It would be nice to end up with something like that...

    Re: Factory exhaust.

For the record I have hot rims aluminum(can paste) on tap as well as nevr dull. Neither brings out any luster thus far.

      How do yours look now?

What steps have you been using?

They are usually just aluminum and/or stainless steel , unless you got something high end.

Do you know what material that particular exhaust / muffler is made of? You mentioned that you have Hot Rims Aluminum Polish.

Could you please post a before / after picture as well as your method so we can get a better idea?

          Thus far....

          1) washed.
          2) 0000 steel wool lightly, to get out any stubborn dirt
          3) applied nevr dull first, better but no shine.
          4) tried hot rims mg/alum polish with a microfiber/wiped off, still no shine..

That is basically what I am wondering myself, I am not 100% sure what stock exhaust piping or what stock muffler is made up of. I assumed aluminum and rolled with it. Unfortunately I am too far in to do a before/after picture.

That is about the change I get on mine, from the back at least.

Did you apply the metal polish with the #0000 wool?

No, I applied with a microfiber first. I tried it with a terry cloth from the parts house, and it worked better. But again, nothing like your picture Murr.

                Re: Factory exhaust.

I think most new vehicles use some sort of stainless for the exhaust systems...

                    Re: Factory exhaust.

Thanks for the tip. I tried that and it cleaned up a lot better, still not as glossy as the above pictures, but I am satisfied with it for sure!

Maybe keeping up with it will go a bit further next time.

i use eagle ones never dull. works like a charm on exhaust pipes as well. Great results and very little elbow grease.

Nevr dull got it started, but didn't get as far as I wanted.

And yeah, Murr, sadly my car has been neglected the last year or so. In the process of trying to bring it back.
