  • Questions after my first detail

    Greetings!

I bought a new porter cable 7346SP buffer/sander and decided to try it out on my 2001 Ford Excursion (Yes it is a lot of vehicle). Anywaway, I washed, clayed, polished with Ultimate Polish and fineshed with NXT 2.0 paste. It looks good, considering that I never waxed it in the eight years that I have owned it, but I have some questions regarding my results. First, the truck is white and I still noticed some water spots on the hood after buffing with ultimate polish twice on speed 3 and using a Meguiar's polishing pad. Secondly I noticed some swirls on the rear pilar with the truck in direct sunlight. Is there something wrong with my technique or am I using the wrong product(s)? Any feedback and or sugggestons would be most appreciated. I would like to figure this out before I detail my 300C.

Ultimate polish is fairly mild when it comes to removing swirls and water spots. If you want to remove swirls/water spots, you should try Ultimate compound.

Thanks for the feedback. I placed the polish on the pad per istructional videos online and just poslished a s 2' square at a time with a little presure on the buffer until the pad lightly bulged. I tried to duplicate what I saw online.

If at first the ultimate polish does not give the desired results, then go with the ultimate compound?

Is your Porter cable rotating or just vibrating? I took mine back to Lowes cause it just wasn't doing the job.

It looks like the patterns I've seen on the internet, so I assume iit's working.

Take a sharpie and mark a nice thick line on either the pad or backing plate, that way when applying pressure you'll be able to watch and make sure the pad is still rotating.

Would he not try Swirlx first before moving to a more abrasive compound??
