Porter Cable problem?

Using Porter cable 7346 SP Lake Country 5.5" CCS pads and spinning is next to non existent. Yes I marked the backing plate but there is just small rotation 10 -20 rpm? Tried light pressure to no pressure and nothing changed? Any ideas?

Mark, slow rotation is still okay. If you totally stop it then there's no correction getting done. Of course it will take you more time to remove defects.

Here are the things which slow or stop pad from rotating:
- too much down pressure,
- pad not kept flat on the surface,
- too slow polisher speed set for paint correction task,
- pad soaked with product.

Lake Country has 5.5" pads available in low profile version: 7/8" thin.

At light to no pressure the pad should rotate very quickly. Once you start putting some pressure down on the tool the rotation will slow dramatically but the oscillation will continue. This assumes you're running at speed 5 of course, as slower speeds will lose rotation fairly quickly under pressure. But even at speed 2 there should be a very noticeable difference in rotation between light pressure and no pressure.

What speed are you running at?

Tried all different speeds. Yes with no pressure on pad it will rotate somewhat. Vibration was terrible. I took tool back to Lowes and using my Junk Black & Decker WP 900 ($29.95). Put velcrol backing on B&D pad to accommodate my lake Country pads. Poor mans Random orbit polisher. Used it today and results look great.
