  • Dropped A Polishing Pad And A Microfiber Towel

    Hey everyone,

On one of my recent details, I accidentally dropped a black finishing pad on the floor while washing it. It was wet so it could have picked up more dirt as opposed to dropping it when it's dry. Do you guys think it's still safe to use after putting it through the a wash cycle? I'm currently soaking it in water for 24 hours and brushing the pad occassionally.

How about microfiber towels? Will you toss a plush microfiber when you drop it on the floor? Or will you just wash it through the washer and assume it'll come out grit free?

    Thanks for your inputs!

I have dropped a pad and towel before, but I never beat myself up over it and just folded them up and put them away after washing them again if need be. Prior to using anything I always iron them out with a lint roller a few times and the roller will pick up anything that was trapped in the fiber.

I tend to look over anything I dropped, pick out what I can see before washing.

Then wash, and look them over again while folding.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm just afraid that the grit would be lodged into the flush fibers of the MF towel or the core of the foam pads and washing it won't make the grit/dirt dislodge. Just wanted to make sure if anybody has dealt with this before and what they think. Seems like it should be fine. Whew!

          The foam shouldnt hold much...

The MF fibers holding stuff is the worst, usually have to pick that stuff out by hand.

Re: Dropped A Polishing Pad And A Microfiber Towel

I dropped my very plush (530grams) MF towel on the garage floor so it shouldn't have picked up much. I'll make sure to soak that towel for a long time and rub it against the grit guard before putting it in the washer.

As for the foam pad, I dropped it in gravel... I'm just happy to hear that the foam shouldn't hold much. I've been brushing it a lot and rubbing it against the grit guard while it's soaking in water.

I have also dropped an applicator, after cleaning,I now use that one for
applying Ultimate Protectant only. It wont see the paint again.
If I drop a microfiber and dont feel good about it,I use that one for wiping out wheel wells and that one wont see the paint either.
If you have any doubts ,Dont use it on your paint. Believe me it isnt worth taking a chance.
