  • Water Magnet, How to use it?

OK, this is may be a very basic question.fficeffice" />

First, most of the recent years, I use synthetic chamois with blotting technique to dry my car. It works great. Dry instantly, and leave no swirl.

Last month, I decided to give a try to Meg's water magnet. Like the suggested method, I water sheeted the panel with gentle flow for the whole car, and then wiped it dry with water magnet panel by panel...

1st panel and 2nd panel, it is great, but the third one, as the water magnet getting moist, it turns into nothing, it seems like the water magnet just spread the water into tiny water spot.

What did I do wrong? Should I use more than 1 water magnet for small sedan? I also try to apply UQD or UQW, but it is the same, the panel can't as dry as I use synthetic chamois with blotting technique.

And, how long is the lifetime of the water magnet and what is the symptoms of defective water magnet?

    Thanks

I can understand your frustration. The water magnet should be very easy to use and leave your car spot-free.

Have you tried wringing the water out after drying each panel? When drying the car, the water magnet obviously absorbs water. At a certain point, the towel cannot hold any more water and it becomes saturated. This is when you are literally moving around water.

It's important to wring the towel out tightly after it gets damp (or after each panel) to promote absorption. You want the water to go into the towel and off of the car. If the towel becomed saturated, or "full", you'll see that it doesn't dry the car very well.

Some people prefer 2 water magnets for a larger car, but I don't mind using one on my SUV.

Also be sure to wash first, no fabric softener.

I like to use 2-3 usually, but I dont do any wringing.

Like said Wash the Water Magnet First, follow the directions.

FYI I use a Cali Water Blade but you can just use WM alone, your just going to need more. I generally can get 60-90% of water off the car in one pass with the blade and then WM the rest.

SO in the other hand is my Water Magnet which I use for a follow up. Works awesome and quick. Blade with my left hand, WM on the right.

One WM will be fine for most autos.

IF you do not like Blading the car, then in MOST cases 2-3 WM can be used so basically they are rung out and hung for air dry, IF they hit the ground, go wash them. Sometimes during a wash I will hand ring out the WM but if I am blading I bearly get any water out since I bladed off 60-90% to begin with.

        Hope this helps.

I should buy one of these....but i find that once I finish washing, I will finish off with a gentle flow of water from the hose, use my $20 leaf blower. I then use an el cheapo MF to get to the remaining water...which is not much.
Final steps could be UQW or UQD, or LT....

But...yea, i think washing the water mag a couple times should help

Re: Water Magnet, How to use it?

            thanks all...

of course I wash it first before use it. for the first time

@Matt, I tried to wring it, but no water out... it moist enough, but not too wet...

Cali Wipe is not available here, so I better order the 2nd or 3rd water magnet. Btw, I like the process when using WM, it is faster.. a lot.. compare to blot with chamois.

CMIIW, when I want to dry my car, the WM should be completely dry.

Anybody have information about the lifetime of WM?

Re: Water Magnet, How to use it?

I probably have a stack of 8 or so Water Magnets.... I just grab 3 each time, put any unused ones back in the stack. Kind of rotates through them, dont think I have thrown one out in years.

I dont use them in the greasy areas, or where they may snag, etc.

Don't wipe. Try blotting instead. Lay the wm across flat surfaces like the hood and roof and blot with the flat of your hand. For vertical surfaces, fold the wm into quarters and gently blot with the flat of your palm. I think you need at least 2 towels for a small car. On my full sized sedan, I typically use 3-4 wm's.

I have found that if you dunk the towel in water first and ring it out really well it makes it absorb water so much better. You have to ring it out well, you just want it damp. I do this at the beginning of the wash and by the end it has dried a little and ***** up water like a champ. I do this with all my waffle weave towels.

I like your method. This is the same as what I'm doing on my cars. The slightly damp towel clings to the car's surface and just soaks up all the water.

Re: Water Magnet, How to use it?

3-4 WMs on one car seems like a lot to me. I bought a few WMs a couple of years ago and found they worked best right out of the package, but upon a washing (and not I did not use fabric softener) they just weren't all that great.

I have a ton of cheap MFs that I bought at Sam's Club ($10-$12 for about 24 MFs that are nice little squares and bright colors) and I like to use them. I use about 3 on my mid-sized sedan. That is of course after using the flooding technique to get most water off and certainly keeping a decent coat of wax with UQD as well.

I'm just not sure what is was, but the WM never seemed all that great to me.
