  • Baked on Brake dust!

So, I'm sure this has been an isssue, but I couldn't find it in the forums anywhere. Does anyone know any secrets (for those people that just get in and drive) on what to use on those customer wheels that have months of build-up of baked on brake dust? I've run into certain customers that I would just eat up my time by scrubbing AN SCRUBBING!!!

Any product suggestions or tips would be appreciated.

    What cleaner were you using?

You could step up to the Wheel Brightener, as long as you were careful, reading instructions, etc.

There is also the option of using a paint cleaner on painted rims.

Thanks for the info. The wheels that I came across was an aluminum wheel and one that had like a fancy hub cap type of plastic. I was using an aluminum cleaner, I think it's from Blue Coral.

hot rims all wheel cleaner,my other car is a brake dust monster..easily could clean the wheels everyday, but like all products a risk is involved just follow the instructions and you should be fine,a product I wouldnt use would be purple power this isnt safe for wheels if you were considering to use

Wheel Brightener is the best for hard to remove brake dust. With that said, it is not for use on anodized wheels or uncoated aluminum wheels. Everything else is fair game. I've seen WB remove stuff that I didn't even think it would remove. And it does it pretty effortlessly.

Meg's wheel brightner took off 5 years of built up brake dust. Sorry I don't have any before pics but you will get the idea. I keep a gallon on hand now just for wheels.

Hey! Thanks for all the reply's. After reading up on so many products out there, I think that you guys are right, just stay with something that you can trust, Meguiar's products. I use most of thier products, but didn't know if anyone found anything different. Just checking.

                  Thanks Again!

Are these types of wheels common? I'm about to order some of this stuff and figured it was safe for all.

                      Re: Baked on Brake dust!

I have not used Wheel Brightener. My rims are chrome.
I have used other products and removed each wheel & cleaned the inside caked on brake dust.

I recently purchased a Daytona wheel brush. Will Wheel Brightener work on my chrome rims?
