  • Gold Class over ColorX

A friend has asked me to give his car a "quickie" before he leaves on vacation today. I have some Gold Class Plus sitting on the shelf and was thinking of using it over ColorX that I would use to clean and wax the car after a good wash.

Searching MOL last night I saw a couple of old discussions of allowing ColorX to sit for awhile, about an hour, before putting NXT over it. I think I may have that much time today before he hits the road. Is that enough time for ColorX to dry before coating with Gold Class Plus?

As he drives out the door, I was thinking of giving the car a shot of Ultimate Quik Wax to help make the bugs easier to remove when he returns. Does Gold Class + have a minimum sitting time before spraying on UQW?

None of these waxes, ColorX, Gold Class +, nor UQW have a cure time like a synthetic sealant like NXT, M21 or UltWax do they?

    Thanks

You can apply the NXT immediately after you have buffed off the ColorX. I usually wait 30 minutes before applying my topper, but I have been told by someone at Meguiar's who knows his stuff that no cure or waiting time is necessary.

Yeah, just do what time allows you. 10-15 minutes is nice, a little longer is even better.

Thanks for the info. I'll wash, buff on some ColorX, take a lunch break and then put on some Gold Class Plus. I can wax his rims and then spray wax the car.

        Thanks again....off to a quickie...

          Re: Gold Class over ColorX

I followed everyone's advice. The car was washed with Gold Class and under what appeared to be a fairly nice finish was a bit of a swirled up mess. I found evidence of some sort of product had been used that hid the swirls.

First photo is after washing, swirls obvious.

This photo is after running over the finish with ColorX twice at speed of 4 then 3 using a finishing pad. First coat wiped immediately and second coat allowed to dry for several minutes and wiped off. The ColorX was then followed up (after a lunch break) with Gold Class Plus and 12 hours later wiped down with Ultimate Quik Wax. Swirls were still horrendous, but owner was please with shine. (Rims were quickly polished using the new Dyna-Cone and All Metal Polish and narrow tires treated with M40. Dyna-Cone cleaning solution works very easily and doesn't even irritate the skin!)

As always thanks for the advice.

I think ColorX, GCCP and UQW was a good selection for quick pre-vacation detail. The vehicle is well protected for its journey.

Wow car looks much better after the ColorX. Another swirled up BMW. Sheesh.

He was headed to a car auction. The car may not be coming back. I did mention I'd be happy to correct it, if and when it returns, but for $$$. Just the rims looked like hours of work and bottles of polish.

Rain in the forecast in the morning when he leaves, should have some serious beading go'n on.

Yep. An e65/e66 (chassis code) facelifted 7. What was the model number on the trunk?
