  • Meguiars Detail Cart

    Introduction:
I purchased this from Autogeek. It is also avail from ADS.

    Autogeek's Description
Meguiars Detailing Cart is a three level rolling cart designed to put all your detailing supplies within easy reach. Work more efficiently by rolling your supplies with you as you work your way around a vehicle. When you're not detailing, Meguiars Detailing Cart rolls neatly out of the way into a corner of the garage.

Meguiars Detailing Cart is made of engineered thermoplastic resin shelves with an aluminum reinforced top. The cart is completely resistant to acids, solvents, and petroleum-based products. The plastic cart will not mar your paint if it bumps into it. The corners of each shelf are rounded.

    Specs:
    1. Rated Size: 18-in wide x 24-in deep
    2. Top speed: not claimed
    3. Rated Capacity 400 lbs
    4. Manufacturer: Meguairs
    5. Made in USA
    6. Price: $149.99 (can use AG promo discounts), ADS sells for 129.99 (net)
    7. Easy to assemble

    Product Observations:
    1. Packaging: Shipped unassembled
    2. Directions: Single page instruction sheet included
    3. Color: Black
    4. Smell: Plastic

    Measurements
    1. Inside shelf dimensions: 17 3/4 wide x 23 3/4 deep x 2 3/4-in recess
    2. Distance between shelves: 12-in
    3. Clearance on lower shelves: 14 3/4-in
    4. Height: 39 1/2-in
    5. Top speed: not determined
    6. Load: not verified
    7. Color - yes it is black

    Notes:
Autogeek's description mentions an aluminum reinforced top. The shelves are all plastic on exterior (aluminum insert molded?) and it could probably ding a car although not as much as a metal one. There are no screws used in the construction so no screw heads that can snag or ding though. Since it is plastic, there are no metal edges and it cannot rust.

It assembled very easy. A rubber mallet (I used a piece of wood and a regular hammer) helps push the tubes between shelves. The casters just press in and it was fairly easy by hand (no tools needed).

The advantage of this cart is the four swivel casters as opposed to many utility carts that have two fixed direction and two swivel. The cart can quickly moved into a tight spot against a wall without having to lift it. The casters are hard rubber and roll freely. Two caster have locks.

One of my goals to mount halogen or fluorescent lights on the cart. I also plan to add an outlet strip.

I had been considering the Harbor Freight unit, but if you could verify a couple of items:
    1. Is the only color black (really getting tired of black)?
    2. What is the top speed (sustained cruising)?
    3. Available smells (really love glass cleaner grape)?

Thanks so much for this comprehensive review/take-a-part/put-to-gether!

I've been wanting something like this for detailing, as well as auto maintenance and repair projects, but wow, what a scam. Even the Harbor Freight cart is too expensive for what you're getting. I saw at Home Depot last night their Husky cart was only $49, but the wife was ready to leave, so I didn't look at the specs. Some things I am OK with getting ripped off but this is an unpatented collection of plastic bits that cost the manufacturers a few bucks and they have the gall to charge $100 for it. Grrr

Yeah agreed. Quite a rip off for a plastic cart with a Meg logo on it. Should be like.... $50-65 max. Or they add $50 worth of cleaning supplies that you choose.

I like it. I think the Meguiar's logo should be more prominent.

Nice cart, but that's way toooo pricey

For the Canadians.... CT has a nice service cart, seen it go on sale quite often for $40-50....I love it!

I agree it is not cheap but then a very flimsy Sterilite drawer cabinet at Walmart cost over $50.

I looked at Northern Tool and they had a 3 shelf structural foam cart 17x30 for $130. Of course, it would cheaper if you waited for a sale (usually around $100).

I did not pay $149 for the cart. ADS sells for around $130.

Ah crud! Something else I want. Shame on me for not thinking of something this simple to transport product and equipment.

This one looks pretty good.... ~$50, sturdy, and maybe you can just get a Maguire's sticker to slap on it

The only thing I don't like about that one is that the boarders aren't that tall and product can easily fall over.
