  • Side Pillars

I'm needing some help with my side Pillars. As shown, the pillar on the left i cleaned off with a little degreaser and the one on the right is washed only. The left looks a little better but still doesnt look "good". I have Ultimate Protectant but it kinda just sits on top of it and doesnt "abosorb" so to speak. How can i get these looking good??

Our van was faded like that & I used some Back-to-Black that I had, worked really well. Meg's has a similar product.

I thought UP would be that but it just streaks and smears. The finish isnt peeling, its like its ashy or something. When it dries it dries with different "clean" spots every time.

You might do a search on the pillars on here. I seem to recall someone using some UC or #105 to clean something like that, kind of remove the top layer of dried stuff. Might change the textrue.

I ran into the same limitation using UP on my satin black window pillars. I used Meguiar's Gold Class Trim Detailer instead with far better results.

Yea thought about it but I really don't want to change the texture,

              Re: Side Pillars

On pillars that are glossy you can use a paint cleaner like SwirlX to clean them up. On matte finished pillars like these, sometimes that still works to even things out, but you'll probably need to follow up with a light duty all purpose cleaner, like APC at 10:1, to remove any residue that might collect in the very fine texture. Don't go aggressively with the SwirlX, but don't just wipe it on like a wax, either. If you have a DA then a yellow polishing pad at speed 3 can do wonders to keep a uniform appearance to the pillars. Any gloss that you do add should back down on it's own in a matter of days.

So swirlx wont change the texture of the finish? In person it seems like a good cleaner would take care of it. I've been meaning to try out some APC+. I may wait and try that before I go with the Swrilx.

Also, should i wax these once i have them cleaned up so it doesnt fade as fast?

UQW would be ok, I dont think other waxes would work.

I have dealt with a few cars like this they, most were just a flat type of paint I usually hit it with 66 as it has a nice chemical cleaner action and isnt too aggressive. If you dont have 66 try color x that should work well....

Is cleaner wax similar to colorx or will it need to be colorx?
