What is the best product and/or technique to remove white powdery polish/wax build up around exterior trim, moulds etc?

White dry build up

I use several items around trim, emblems, and the edges of panels, lenses and such. I usually grab my small round Boar's Hair brush, some Q-tips, some cotton balls, a good MF towel, and a fine QD. Then, I mist on some QD, and take either the brush, Q-tip, or cotton ball and clean up the area, and wipe dry with the MF, or even a cotton ball.
There are specialized detailing brushes just for this purpose, but the above has work well (and safely) for me for years and years.
For white residue "on" the trim, I use one of several products, of which, Meguiar's #39 (Heavy duty vinyl and rubber cleaner) is still one of my favorites.Boss_429

Hey,
with Boss. The key is to be gentle around the emblems as it is easy to mark the paint while trying to remove the residue. Once removed, the easiest way to prevent that from happening again is to use Safe Release Painter's Masking Tape and tape-off the emblems. It may take a little more time in the beginning, but it will save a ton of time at the end.
For example, here I am prepping to use the rotary buffer. Granted the rotary will sling a lot more than the PC, hence the bed sheet covering the canopy. However, the taping off of the emblems, tailgate release etc. is the same.
Cheers!

Thanks very much for the input. The main areas I have for white powder build up is in the tiny recesses where rain gutters used to be over doors. My Benz has this channel that works as a gutter of sorts I suppose, it allows you to fit roof racks etc. Anyway that is the area if focus. I assume Meguiars #39 is ok on paint?Mercedes Benz CLK 500

If the residue is in a seam "on the paint", use some detail spray and the methods described above.
If the residue is on rubber or vinyl in the channel, use the #39.
Not that #39 will harm the paint, but it is not made for that purpose and will probably remove any protective coating you have on there.
Hope this helps.Boss_429
