  • suggestion on D151

I finally got my sample bottle from ADS, and really can't wait to find a chance to try it out!

But I am wondering if D151 with polishing pad ( or even finishing pad ) is mild enough ( as M205 ) to be used regularly as polishing.

I am not running business on detailing, but just friends and families' cars. Most of cars in family are white, so the swirls and scratches are not really shown much. In that case, I tend to polish them with some scratches left on paint, so I can make sure to leave the most clear coat on possible. The left on scratches can't really be seen on white color paint anyways. I used mostly the M205 with PC and polishing pad. Occasionally, I will use UC and form cutting pad if I need a bit more cutting on worse condition paint.

In my situation, will D151 diverse enough to give me the similar performance and result as UC and M205 on white color paint, in different paint conditions?

In most cases D151 won't leave your paint as glossy as M205. It offers more cut than M205 and less than UC.

You can use D151 as 1-step or 2-step product (by switching to less aggressive pad in step 2). You can use it with wool & foam cutting pads, yellow polishing pads or black finishing pads.

It's a great all in one product thought.

will it sound like a bad idea if I polish the same car with D151 and polishing pad + DA, every 6 months or sooner?

I suppose that UP or M205 should be fine for every 6 months polish, right??

It's hard to beat glossy finish which M07, M205 and UP leave. They have much richer oils than D151. But if you use D151 with black finishing pad it will leave gloss as well. D151 with yellow polishing pad will give good cut and can easily deal with small to medium defects.

I used D151 on these three vehicles as 1-step correction (mostly swirls and some scratches) and I didn't use any finishing wax on top and they came out really good:

This is what it really all boils down to then, right? If so, as Greg points out, D151 on it's own won't rival the overall final gloss you can get with UC and M205/Ultimate Polish, but it's great as a strong cleaner wax. Obviously, how you use it will have a huge impact on how much cut you get out of it (pad choice, tool speed, buffing time, pressure, etc), but it's a great maintenance product once you've gotten everything corrected with a more potent combination of variables. Of course, one of those more potent combinations could still included D151, just at a higher speed, with a more aggressive pad, etc.

If you want a really nice all in one, D151 may be your ticket. But if you don't mind spending some extra time, a multi step approach with UC & UP finally topped with Ultimate Wax or NXT will outperform D151 on its own.
