  • Which Wheel Cleaner

Recently installed a set of Mickey Thompson Sidebiter wheels, they are a polished Black finish. Wondering what would be the best cleaner to use on them. Before install I did use Meguirs Quik Wax on them.

    Re: Which Wheel Cleaner

I wash my wheels with the same car wash soap that I use on the car. I use a dedicated wash mitt for the wheels and my hands. I'm not a fan of chemical wheel cleaners.

Sounds painted to me, but just car wash soap, or the Aluminum Wheel Wash would be the mild way to go.

Yes, it does sound like they're painted, but..... and this is really important with aftermarket wheels - make sure you know for sure what the finish is before you use anything other than soap and water on them. Check with the manufacturer first. A wheel that is painted and clear coated should be able to withstand our All Wheel Cleaner or even Wheel Brightener - the painted and clear coated aftermarket wheels on my daily driver have been cleaned with these two products more times than I can count and I've never had a problem. But that doesn't mean your wheels have the same type of finish that mine do.

Our call center takes a huge number of phone calls from people who used the wheel cleaner on their wheels (usually Chrome Wheel Cleaner on aluminum wheels - ouch!) so make darn sure you know. Contact the manufacturer - and stick with soap and water unless and until you hear otherwise.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.
